Those who also dabble in mainstream, what do you do?
 

So we all know how adult is promoted and what type of sites there are to run, but what do you do in mainstream? Is it all just about writing blogs for SE traffic and converting them with X product or ebook or Google ads? It seems as if adult has more flexible ways of making money but that is just from the outside looking in..

Yes, of course. I am hearing all the time how time spent on mainstream has a better return but I am clueless on where to even get started or what to promote.

Promote like in adult where you battle tubes for traffic and send it to sponsors? you're doing it all wrong, find a product, sell the motherfucker, ebay, ecrater, etsy, your own estore.

wanna push shitty get rich ebooks? fucking do it.
the options are just about limitless...

how did you started in adult? if you are successful, you started the right way, now repeat it in mainstream ... i dont think you started in adult with some hints from forums :winkwink:

Generally speaking, its easier to be successful operating in markets you understand or have knowledge of than it is jumping into areas you don't.

I' not suggesting that one can pick up anything and make money with it. I'm just saying that you don't need some miracle game plan to make money in mainstream either. Pick something, try it, see what works. Then pick something else, apply what worked and see where that goes. Same shit you'd do it adult. Eventually you get on the tails of things that work. Wash, rinse, and repeat.

Why ask people what makes money? just so you can make some money off something you don't even give a shit about? Figure out what you like and do it. It's not rocket science.

I've been meaning to break into adult for the last few years, with a huge animated project -- but my mainstream job(medical animation) has been the thing keeping me too busy(but paying my bills). Now the adult industry has seemingly gone to shit recently, but I'm going to go ahead anyway just because this idea won't stop torturing me until I get it out of my head.

I'm just saying don't get into things you have no passion for.

I mainly am just confused on how to build a mainstream site or where to get traffic from. In adult the sponsor provides you with images/videos and other content to use for creating lots of pages and you can buy traffic and easily start trades and get the ball rolling. Mainstream seems like a lot of SEOing, praying, and waiting for quality traffic to come to your couple of pages pushing a product.

I know I probably make it sound harder than it is but I have no blogging or shopping cart experience and can survive in adult without that, but those are probably keys to making money in mainstream.

You would have to be ironically amazing at that for me to pay you for anything especially writing out posts LOL.

i have just been using seo for traffic for mainstream stuff. i do a lot of research into keywords, traffic, competition and monetization before i make anything though.

I sell mainstream domains primarily...adult has always been only about 10% of my portfolio if that, and it's increasingly becoming a lesser part of my portfolio. I do a lot of biz to SEOs/developers that recognize the importance of strong exact match keyword domains and capitalize on such domains.

I also used to run a mainstream freebie/free samples site, but that was much harder to make something out of than it would seem. Amazing though that places like Groupon can make so much with mostly shitty coupons to places no one I know ever would go to and yet less people are going for actual samples that are free and don't involve jumping through hoops like doing surveys or anything. *shrug*

It's hard to want to get into development of domains I have when I do well enough at selling them.
