Which countries or States have you been to, work or pleasure?

Was lucky enough to have parents who were adventurous in that we first went abroad in 1956. Since then always had the travel bug and during the late 60s visited a lot of Europe using my thumb to hitch lifts.

So here's my list.

France
Spain
Portugal
Canary Islands
Belgium
Holland
Denmark
Germany
Austria
Switzerland
Italy
Vatican, yes it's a different country LOL
Cyprus
Crete
Greece
Turkey
Romania
Bulgaria
Russia
India
Thailand
Philippines
Pennsylvania
Maryland
W. Virginia
Virginia
Kentucky
Tennessee
Arkansas
Oklahoma
Texas
New Mexico
Arizona
Utah
Colorado
Nevada
California
Florida
Canada
Mexico

Only places I would love to go and haven't would be Peru and Brazil. Still time though.

So what's your list?

Pandemos 10-19-2010 09:38 AM

I've hardly been anywhere.

I was born in 1975 and didn't leave the UK until 1989 when I went on a school day trip to France in 1989. Shortly after that my family moved to Ireland. We lived in County Cork mostly, but did spend six months or so in Limerick.

Came back to the UK in 1994 and aside from one brief return trip to Ireland didn't leave these shores again until a year ago when I went to the US. Spent three weeks in San Diego, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

US.... Too many states to list. Still haven't visited Hawaii, but it's on my list. In fact, I'd move there if I could sell my house here (which I can't). I was even looking at house prices there yesterday.

Europe... Germany, France, Iceland, Greenland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland. For the most part, Europe disappointed me. This was a long time ago, but you can see the American influence everywhere. The TV played American shows (in other languages), and the music was all American too. At the restaurants we drank Coca Cola.

The one thing that killed me was the skiing - Went skiing in Switzerland, came back home to the states, went skiing once, and then never again. Once you've gone skiing in Switzerland, the US is a waste of your time. In Switzerland it was two hours uphill in a train at dawn, skiing downhill was an all day event with restaurants along the way. In the US it's fifteen minutes in line, ten minutes up hill, for five minutes of downhill skiing.

I've also been to Canada and Mexico. Mexico is like a third world country, and Canada is lot like the US except for cleaner and the people are nicer.

Theo 10-19-2010 10:40 AM

29 countries, some 6-7 states

We went to a village in Italy and you could see the American influence everywhere. And they had totally ruined the place.

It was in 1956 or 7 and you could see the shell craters and bullet holes everywhere. A division of Germans had decided to make a stand there. :Oh crap

That must of been a while ago. Today skiing in Switzerland is popular with tourists and very packed.

Not like. It IS a third World country. Went there and got the same impression as you. Didn't like it, except sea fishing in San Felipe, Gulf of California side of Baja.

That would be your fault. Try going somewhere other than the Hardrock Berlin. If anything I see the European influence on our cities such as NYC and SF.

Ive been all over the country. I had a job that required a lot of traveling.

The worst is Oklahoma. There's not a whole lot and the majority of people I came across were less than bright.

The best being Hawaii. Perfect all the way around. clubs , girls, beaches, weather and everything is laid back.

Second best is Austin Texas. Hot babes all over! 6th Street is a nice central location with tons of clubs.

Third is Chicago. Great house scene with a cool house radio station that starts every night @ 7pm.

I think OK is okay, IA is the worst in my book. The best, that would be CA, the second best . . . HI is very nice, but UT has so much to offer and it is a lot closer. I have only seen two of the islands (Kauai and Maui) so we will return. For the time being I will say HI and UT are tied for second. :)

Austin is my favorite place in TX, but it is still TX, so can not be on my best list.

I hear people mention Chicago all the time and I just do not get it. NYC would get my nod over Chicago any time. San Francisco beats Chicago too.

Oklahoma, flat and boring. If you blink as you go past the city you miss it. Yes met one of the dumbest waitresses ever there. :1orglaugh

She had problems taking an order for pizzas. It was our accents that had her screwed. Said I was from England and she asked what State that was in. Said it was Great Britain and she asked if that was in Canada. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh
