Google Apps Gmail or own email server?
Google Apps Gmail or own email server? What would be better for community website email system (registration/confirmation/notification etc. emails) and why?
|
google apps does not work for automated outgoing emails.
after sending a dozen or so in a day, that have the same format, google will start sending you bounces saying how they prevent spam, both on the sending end, and receiving end. at least that was the case when i tried it for a project about 6-8 months ago. may be different if you pay up the $50 / account for google apps enterprise. the best combo is, google apps for the receiving (pop3/imap), own server for the sending. cant beat it. |
We do this for email and it works good. We tried it because of problems with spam filters and now it seems everything hits the Inbox. We are not sending a large volume of email though. Also, it's Google Apps not standard Gmail.

i like using outlook 2010, and my own server

for automated emails like registration and opt in stuff i prefer to use my own mail system.
but for peoples personal email you should use google mail reason being is that google can and will suspend email accoutns that it thinks are spamming. i dont think it takes too many people to hit the spam button in their gmail to get the account suspended |
