MUST SEE MOVIES - advice please - anything in the last 2 years

We've had 2 kids in the space of 3 years, and I'm let loose thank god, for 5 weeks while they're overseas.

Anyway, I need to catch up on movies, have hardly watched anything other than that cack Avatar in the last 2 years.

What's are MUST SEE movies of the last few years?

I've got out: Green Zone (Damon), and Robin Hood (groan, but had to really, Crowe) so far.

What should I see?

masterut 10-19-2010 01:28 AM

In Bruges (2008)

Check out Felon. Really good gritty film that didn't get much publicity.

I saw The Town at the cinema on the weekend and that was pretty damn good.

CunningStunt 10-19-2010 01:42 AM

Felon looks good. Anything with Ben Affleck involved directing or acting, I steer well clear of though. What are you thinking man!

I don't understand all the hate for him. I really don't. It's rife on the SA forums too haha.

I just watched a couple that I thought were good.

Ghost Writer - Ewan McGregor takes a job ghost writing a former prime ministers biography and ends up involved in a bad situation.

Hot Tub Time Machine - it is crazy, but very funny.

The Hangover - one of the funniest movies I have seen in years.

Crazy Heart - Jeff Bridges won the Oscar for his performance as a washed up country singer named Bad Blake.

Paul Markham 10-19-2010 03:59 AM

:2 cents:

Just to prove most movies today are IMO crap. Look at the top earners 50 of 2010. IMO you have to get to the bottom to find anything worth watching. Get him to the Greek and Wall Street.

http://www.leesmovieinfo.net/WBOYearly.php

2009 was a better year. Up, The Hangover, Sherlock Holmes, Inglourious Basterds, Julie and Julia, Up in the Air and even a remake Taking...Pelham 123.

2010 has a long way to go. IMO.

seeandsee 10-19-2010 04:06 AM

the collector
Machete
Sherlock Holmes

ottopottomouse 10-19-2010 04:32 AM

Harry Brown

From Paris with Love

Repo Men

The Joneses http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1285309/ class act

John-ACWM 10-19-2010 04:52 AM

Robin Hood with Crowe was good. The sad thing is that no title comes to mind when you say a 'must see'.

Grapesoda 10-19-2010 04:59 AM

Taken.... very good flick

alsdesign 10-19-2010 05:24 AM

Though not a huge DiCaprio fan, I loved Shutter Island and Inception. Then a few:

Unthinkable
Get Him to the Greek
The Crazies

A "must-see" is also Sunshine, which has got lovely soundtrack.

gmr324 10-19-2010 05:45 AM

The Town is a must see. It's a cross between The Departed and Heat

sojproductions 10-19-2010 05:53 AM

Law abiding citizen... great flick, taken is awesome too as above

Caligari 10-19-2010 06:03 AM

A Serious Man - great coen bros flick
The Experiment - worth seeing
Piranha 3D - actually a very good horror comedy 3D or not.

Wow, you really need some help. Robin Hood?

Sunshine
Inception
Assassination of Jesse James
The Lookout
The Descent
Bronson
Moon
Transsiberian
The Fall
Before the Devil Knows you're Dead
A Prophet

for starters...I can't think of anything else right now. I would put Sunshine at the top of the must see list.

Steiger 10-19-2010 06:19 AM

Middle Men

The Duck 10-19-2010 06:22 AM

Nobody knows, a fantastic Japanese drama.

cwd 10-19-2010 06:44 AM

A Prophet

RuthB 10-19-2010 08:45 AM

KICK ASS!

It's a great movie! :thumbsup:thumbsup

Synopsis:
Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan with a few friends and who lives alone with his father. His life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming. However, one day he makes the simple decision to become a super-hero even though he has no powers or training.

It's hilarious, action-packed and well worth a rental!! Check out the trailer at the link above, you won't regret taking the time to watch this movie. :thumbsup

CunningStunt 10-19-2010 10:12 AM

Yep, they are both great. Was gonna say Taken last night but couldn't remember the name of it.

Shags 10-19-2010 01:37 PM

Precious
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee
Gran Torino
Fish Tank
Shutter Island
An Education
Lars And The Real Girl

MobiusMike 10-19-2010 01:38 PM

I would have to say that I would do a Cormac McCarthy novel to movie fest:

No Country for Old Men

The Road

No Country is definitely a classic in the same vein as:

The Usual Suspects
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction

Really? I just saw this the other night and I did not like. Kinda started to get good around the middle and then went to blah. I had high expectations though, being it was made by Peter Jackson. Heavenly Creatures is one of my favorite movies of all time, and Heavenly Creatures this movie is not :(

But I do agree with some of your other suggestions. Watchment was amazing, Zombieland is pretty awesome and Tropic Thunder is pretty fucking perfect.

CunningStunt 10-19-2010 03:18 PM

Ok, returning the first 2, going to get out 5 more.

Talk about kid in a chocolate shop, I don't know which way to turn.

u-Bob 10-19-2010 03:30 PM

the dark night, gran torino, the book of eli, zombieland, 3:10 to yuma, 10000 bc, armored, babylon ad, terminator salvation,...

Persius 10-19-2010 04:14 PM

Inception

Konkan 10-20-2010 06:09 AM

The Experiment, RED, human centipede, The Book of El, Felon.......all these are great movies but still I prefer horror genre
