Obama, MythBusters to Test 'Archimedes Death Ray' in Push to Promote Science
Published October 18, 2010| FoxNews.com

President Obama is either trying to reach a new audience or he's looking to build the Pentagon's next project on the cheap.

The president is set to make a guest appearance next month on the Discovery Channel's "MythBusters," the show where a team of explosion-prone pyrophiles test urban legends. The Obama episode will focus on the so-called "Archimedes death ray."

I'm looking forward to his cameo voiceover on South Park. Clooney was a dog if I recall correctly... what will Obama be?

IllTestYourGirls 10-18-2010 11:30 AM

I thought this was a joke at first. But I guess Obama needs to campaign more rather than working to get the economy back and running.

Relentless 10-18-2010 11:34 AM

Yes, because getting students interested in Science is a terrible idea.
This is no different than other Presidents reading to school children or touting the importance of literacy.

Quote:

Discovery spokeswoman Katherine Nelson said the experiment was included on a list of options for the president "because fans are constantly asking the MythBusters to re-test the Archimedes Solar Ray." She said the White House picked the ray test "because it provided the greatest opportunity to get students involved in (science, technology, engineering and math) in the most real way possible."

The Discovery appearance was announced Monday before the president hosted the White House Science Fair. The episode is scheduled to air Dec. 8 as part of the president's effort to "inspire young people to excel in math and science."
I guess he would be doing a better job if he threw out the first pitch at a baseball game instead...
(because those are broadcasted by Fox lol).

luckiest girl on tele: mythbuster carrie. proof that any retard errand girl can end up on tele by being in the right spot at the right time without any effort/skills/talent/looks whatsoever.

Sly 10-18-2010 11:53 AM

I don't think this is a bad idea really, it's just kind of funny when looked at in conjunction with all of the other random TV appearances. Science is good and we used to be known for some of our great scientific achievements... not sure that we are anymore. There are still a lot of great discoveries we need to make, helping kids understand that science really is cool is a good thing.

They should try getting some sports stars and musicians to do some projects like that. Kids look up to those guys more than the President.

heymatty 10-18-2010 12:04 PM

I wonder if he's taking his birth cert along. haha

Vendzilla 10-18-2010 12:10 PM

I think it's a great idea for the president to get involved and promote science

I wish they would bust the myth of where the economy has gone...........

They need her to counterbalance Grant. Grant has so much talent that they needed a vapid chick to make the show accessible for kids. Hell, any guy who can build Geoff Peterson for the Craig Ferguson show has to be a genius! :2 cents:

The fact that kids do not look up to the President is a HUGE problem. Not a specific President, but the 'office' of President. Badmouthing the President for blunders is useful in a Democracy, badmouthing the President just to do it... isn't. Few people disliked George Bush as much as I did/do and few people were more outspoken about it than I was/am... but I wasn't sitting around badmouthing the way he threw a first pitch at a baseball game... or the way he nearly choked to death trying to eat a pretzel. I don't think that sort of thing is constructive. I was badmouthing the way he lied us into a war and gutted Habeas Corpus.

When Obama does something wrong (and there are plenty of examples) go ahead and blast him... when he tries to make Science 'cool' for kids or does some of the admittedly dopey ceremonial stuff that Presidents do... it's not productive to blast him for it. :2 cents:

They should bust the myth that government regulations create jobs. Or that school vouchers hurt children.

I beg to differ. The girl has all of the above.

She is a pleasure to look at. Mythbuster homos made a good decision by getting her on board.

That's more along the lines of what the guys who write Freakonomics might do.
Mythbusters is a science show... and should remain one. It's one of the few shows on television that actually teaches kids anything.

Now, if you want to know exactly how far a bus full of school vouchers would move if it were filled with gunpowder and exploded... then you'd have the right people for the job. :2 cents:

Indeed. :2 cents:

She is kinda cool though.

Phoenix 10-18-2010 01:32 PM

thats cool i like their show...even if i think they were totally off on some of their assumptions...remember anytime you put someone in a position that tells people he is smart....scientist etc...they can tell the average person their assumptions and it gets taken as truth

that is dangerous

Rebel D 10-18-2010 01:38 PM

They redoing the archemedes death ray one. it wasn't so much a deathray last time they did it

seeandsee 10-18-2010 02:04 PM

tesla probably know something more
