MaDalton 10-16-2010 02:56 PM

looks like my prediction of round 10 can come true

Mutt 10-16-2010 03:03 PM

shit, i forgot heavyweight boxing still existed - makes me sad, to me it's the greatest sporting spectacle ever.

shannon briggs is the top ranked American heavyweight? if so, that's pathetic. he's been around forever.

the Muhummad Ali's, George Foremans, Mike Tyson's are all playing in the NFL. nobody wants to be a boxer anymore :(

MaDalton 10-16-2010 03:06 PM

briggs refuses to go down - he can take a lot - round 12 now

james_clickmemedia 10-16-2010 03:07 PM

crazy how boxing has is now 2nd behind mma in US.
fight not even being shown on us tv.

Machete_ 10-16-2010 03:11 PM

crazy fight

at the end, i felt bad for the black guy taking such heavy punishment

MaDalton 10-16-2010 03:13 PM

damn - the last 3 or 4 rounds Briggs was nothing but a punching ball, took hit after hit, but he managed to end the fight on his feet. Klitschko won all 12 rounds though

and regarding boxing vs. mma: i dont consider mma a sport and i'm not interested in watching it. and it never will be popular over here, in some countries public fights are already forbidden

Great match, great atmosphere. The germans surely know how to make a great show. Too bad there were so many adverts on RTL.

That seems like such an odd attitude to me. If you are a fan of boxing, which is also a man vs man combat sport, MMA is not a far stretch. After all MMA is simply a combinaton of several already recognized, legitimite Olympic sports including boxing, Graeco-Roman wrestling, karate, jujitsu, judo and some others. The UFC already had at least one event in Germany which went off fairly well despite some local opposition.

MMA is so popular and the world's fastest growing sport of the 21st century for a reason. It has captured the public's hunger for entertaining fighting sports, just like boxing did in America and across the world in the 20th century. One could even make the argument that boxing is far more dangerous for the fighters, who get their already concussed brains further bashed in after a standing eight count, whereas MMA fighters get the fight stopped by the refereee if they are obviously cannot fight back effectively, saving them from receiving further, cumulative punishment.

Ukrainian, not Russian, okay?

sorry, not gonna change my mind about that - boxing is a sport with a long tradition, MMA is nothing but a sign whats wrong with parts of society nowadays

besides that:

besides that:

You are entitled to your opinion of course, but understand this: Refusing to change one's mind as a blanket policy regardless of the evidence- and being proud of that on top of it- are in and of themselves signs of a closed mind. That applies to anything of course, not just boxing vs MMA. In specific, MMA fighters are professional athletes whose prowess far exceeds boxers due to the multple fighting discplines they must train in to be competitive. They aren't thugs nor a sign of what's wrong with any society, not here in North America nor over in Europe, nor South America for that matter.

If you are a fan of boxing that's cool. I grew up watching Muhammed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson and many other big fights with my grandfather and father who were big boxing fans. But I really think you must have some erroneous idea about MMA, just like many people used to ten or fifteeen years ago in order to have such a strong opinion aganst it.

By the way, if you ever want to reconsider there's a great German fighter named Dennis Siver you can root for who fights in the UFC and who is very entertaining to watch. Here he is executing a spinning back kick, his signature move which has finished more than one opponent and earned him a couple of Knockout of the Night bonuses.

How old is that black guy? he looks like he's about 50 years old.
