ICQ 7.2 can fuck right off
So I was on ICQ version 6 point something or other, and it made me upgrade to 7.2. When it finally connected, all my contacts were gone. So it can just fuck off.
How do I get them back though? |

Login with Trillian and see if they are still there.

I stopped using ICQ on daily basis after they went into version 5. Every since then it's been the most resource consuming messenger ever. Ugly, Slow and causes random issues, e.g. moving my icons and resizing other program screens!!!

I hate ICQ!

trillian is far more professional and i was an icq purist for years... they turned it into a disney kids toy accompanied with seizure causing ads being flashed in your face everywhere you turn...

Perhaps the contacts that want to message you will message you. You can add them again to your list. The version of ICQ changed, but the icq # stayed the same. So, they can message you on your same icq #. However, you can't message them, because you lost their #s. If you have a good memory, you could try to memorize numbers in your mind.

When my ICQ kept asking me if I wanted to download an upgrade, I'd say no thanks. One day, it began ignoring my "no" and downloaded it anyway. Knowing that it would do the upgrade the next time I started ICQ against my wishes, I went to the ICQ program folder and deleted the downloaded upgrade package. This worked so I did it each day before closing ICQ. After maybe 10 times it stopped downloading it.
I also have a tweaker that lets you remove all the ads, resize the window and make the contact list the only thing you see if you keep the main program open. None of the bullshit. It looks like the old (old old) ICQ. There's usually an icq ad remover out there within a day or so of a new upgrade because it's such a common complaint. Trillian works good too. The only problem I ever had with it was occasionally orphaning people at random, that was a few versions ago though. |
