antivirus software

When I got my new Fujitsu-Siemens PC it was bundled with a antivirus software called Norman. At first I thought; great, they give me a free antivirus software, but when I realized it took 30s to load it on startup my happy mood disappeared.

So now I'm looking for a new program. I've looked at McAfee AV but a freind of mine says that it doesn't work very good with WinXP. Does any of you have a tip, please share your experince with me.

Thx

This one - link is one of the best on the market - try it out - works great on XP, and dont steal any cpu power

Norton's AntiVirus is probably what you meant.

PC - Cillin sounds good... will check it out

BTW, has anyone been affected by the "Lirva" (or something) virus. The one that can disable virus protection softwares.

toodamnfli is right. Panda is as good as they get.

It has beat every other AV program out there.

I had Norton for a while. Something screwy happened and it pissed me off so I uninstalled it. I have AVG now and I love it.

panda actually uses the fewest resources of all antivirus programs

dapproid 01-11-2003 03:09 PM

Downloading a Panda trial for the moment... will check it out

I would not feel safe downloading a software from a .RU domain

Why would you want to use anything but the #1 rated AV software available? Maybe you should switch.

There is an antivirus test in about every computer magazine several times a year. Panda always comes out on top. I had never heard of it before I read one of those tests. Mcafee was pissing me off so I bought panda and never looked back. As soon as I installed Panda, it caught a few minor things that mcafee had let slide.

Okay... I thought it was like a Official standard AV software rating.

McAfee cought a few bugs that Norman had slipped. I wonder how many Panda or AVP will find=)

TDF 01-11-2003 04:12 PM

Panda is the best hands down..according to me and also PC world magazine

DX 01-11-2003 04:14 PM

Panda:
"The Lowdown: This virus hunter's new interface is a breeze to use, but Panda stumbles on price, support, and detection skills."

its much much more efficient than Nortons, usues less CMU resources, costs less, and updates daily...who really needs support with an anti-virus program anyways?

DX 01-11-2003 04:20 PM

and PC World puts NAV almost religiously ahead of everyone else.

Always take reviews from mags/sites that accept ads from the products they're reviewing' with a massive grain of salt.
