IMAGINE: John Lennon Would Have Been 70 Years Old Today

http://myrtus.typepad.com/photos/unc...aginepeace.jpg

Quote:

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
I will visit the Strawberry Fields memorial to John Lennon in Central Park next week. If there are any thoughts you want me to express while I am there, let me know.

My absolute favorite John Lennon song...

Quote:

As soon as your born they make you feel small,
By giving you no time instead of it all,
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school,
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool,
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years,
Then they expect you to pick a career,
When you can't really function you're so full of fear,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

Keep you dope with religion and sex and TV,
And you think you're so clever and classless and free,
But you're still fucking peasents as far as I can see,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

There's room at the top they are telling you still,
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,
If you want to be like the folks on the hill,
A working class hero is something to be.
A working class hero is something to be.

If you want to be a hero well just follow me,
If you want to be a hero well just follow me.

has that lonely haunting 70s sound when we all were more alone

Who was john lennon?

beta-tester 10-09-2010 02:14 AM

perfect!

CunningStunt 10-09-2010 02:19 AM

He's one of the reasons I married a Japanese woman, now I hate him. LOL.

Peace Out, it's a real shame you were taken from this world before your time.

SomeCreep 10-09-2010 02:22 AM

John Lennon helped to make the world a better place. Damn, his death was such a great loss.

And one of the best covers ever...

My beloved wife surprised me by treating me to a Roxy Music concert years ago on my birthday. They played Jealous Guy, as well as one of my favorite Neil Young songs, Like A Huuricane:

I was at this actual concert in which Neil Young played:

And now let's bring this full circle, Neil Young performing John Lennon's "Imagine":

I know someone's going to say "blasphemy!" to this, but one of the rare times something good came out of American Idol was this year when Casey Blake covered Jealous Guy

(and yes he does sound a lot like Huey Lewis)

Beautiful boy, oh my love .I was more of a fan of the beatles than any of the solo efforts.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 10-09-2010 01:16 PM

One of John's most beautiful and haunting melodies:

Say what you will about Yoko Ono (I've never been a fan of her music), but she has spent the past 30 years keeping the legacy of her husband alive, and contributed to efforts to create peace and help people around the world.

Peace,

ADG

John-ACWM 10-10-2010 08:16 AM

Legend. Too bad it ended so soon for him. I am curios what he would've done if he lived these times.

cykoe6 10-10-2010 08:59 AM

Fucking Marxist scumbag...... the world was well rid of him. :disgust

Good songwriter though. This is one of my favorites (Happiness Is a Warm Gun). :)
