stillsexy, you raise a good point. What surprises me about Singapore is the ban on chewing gum. People are not allowed to smuggle chewing gum inside the country. Gum is not even as harmful as weed or crack. It is also surprising that Singapore recognizes four official languages (wow, so many). It is true that Singapore is a heavily policed state. The city's laws are famously strict.
The experiment with bringing casinos into the city appears to be a success. People sure want to gamble when they see beautiful colorful fun machines with high quality audio and video. These slot machines, game tables and other items are made to resemble fun games such as arcade games. What happens is people start playing games for money, not just playing games for free. It is amazing that Singapore's gambling revenues could be larger than that of Las Vegas.
