What exotic pet should I get?
 

Ive been thinking about getting a pet lately and I am interested in something exotic. Ive thought about getting a lynx - cat (like Zuzana has) , a bangle cat, flying squirrels, snakes, and a wallaroo.

Any better ideas? What should I get?


edit: I am currently in a condo.

you live in a condo....get a goldfish. Pets need room to roam.

If your looking for something exotic that you can realistically keep in a condo then I think that a pair of ferrets might work. Probably the closest thing to a domesticated pet.

Worked with a guy that had a pair for a couple of years and they got along with his doberman too!

I've had some interesting creatures over the years, I had a military macaw that I got from a bar that closed down, it would say Here kitty kitty and if you offered it a cracker, it would tell you to fuck off.
I had 5 Red-bellied piranha, the tank was hard to keep clean and everyone showed up with animals to feed them just to watch.
Best pet so far has been a French Mastiff, but you can't have that unless you have a couple acres for them to run

Still understated, even by the off chance you get one that doesn't scream, he is going to do something loud to annoy the shit out of you. I had an Amazon that I kept in a condo, couldn't keep it for long as it decided that to get attention it would just yell out "HELP!" it sounded like an old lady crying for attention.

While I could do my best to get around it, everyone that came over thought it was hilarious and encouraged it. It got louder and louder doing that until finally you could hear it in the parking garage and in the other buildings around me. I had to get rid of him before someone called the fire department thinking some old lady had fallen down.

Exotic pets are usually exotic for a reason, they are hard to keep. Get a regular cat, hell even a pure bred that looks exotic and you will be much happier for it.

Not legally, they were given to me and I wasn't going to kill them. Later gave them to someone else when my GF had a fit about my pets

All I ever hear is how dirty / stinky ferrets are.

Maybe in Gayifornia or some other queer state, but I've owned and seen plenty of red bellied piranhas for sale, they're common as shit in the Midwest. They love raw venison and hot dogs :1orglaugh but generally are kind of boring fish.

I had ferrets and would never let one in my house again. The stink and when you let them out, they'll shit in any corner spot they are close to.

We have hedgehogs at the moment. My girl is a licensed breeder. At one point we had about 30 of them. But I think at last count, we're down to about 6 until spring.

Hedgehogs are awesome, inexpensive and easy to care for.

I recommend a cat for a condo. I have a cocktail, lab and some cichlids now. I have had rodents, parrot (till my roommate shot it and fed it to my African rock python) cats, dogs and various rodents and rabbits. Even if you de-sent ferrets they stink like hell. I dont really recomend any of my past "exotics" they all have drawbacks.

If you really want an exotic get an African Savannah cat. They look great and are cool cats. Plus women are not scared of them like they will be for most other exotics.

Get an exotic cat. A desert link/bobcat hybrid is very intelligent and obedient like a dog. Savannah's and bengals are a great breed too. Just be sure to meet the breeder prior to getting any exotic cat. Some breeder sell in bulk and the cats don’t get very much human contact besides just a feeding a day and maybe an hour with the owner. These cats sometimes become timid and shy. Look for a smaller cattery that spends lots of time with the cats so they are use to being around people. I need to get some new pics when I get time of all my animals. Here is Einstein Bobby Cat from a couple months ago. He has grown a ton since these pics.
