Some 3,000 millionaires on Unemployment

According to U.S. Internal Revenue Service data, 2,840 households reporting at least $1 million in income on their tax returns that year also collected a total of $18.6 million in jobless aid. They included 806 taxpayers with incomes over $2 million and 17 with incomes in excess of $10 million. In all, multimillionaires reported receiving $5.2 million in jobless benefits.

And they were probably on the lines at the TeaBaggers protests protesting how Obama is taling the country down the nasty road to socialism.

They deserve it like everyone else.

it's called unemployment insurance so they're entitled to it
it would be like cashing in a home insurance if it got flooded
they have the money to buy a new house or to repair it but instead take advantage of what they paid for

People don't get it. They figure just because you're a millionaire you don't deserve to collect what you've paid in.

Who are the REAL socialists?

I saw a story a while back on some news show about a guy in Florida who had a 2 million dollars house, a few cars a country club membership the whole bit. He made some really good money as a hedge fund guy. Then the bottom dropped out and he lost his job. He couldn't get another job and decided to strike out on his own. He found getting clients wasn't easy and ended up drawing unemployment and delivering pizzas part time to make enough to feed his family. His house was being foreclosed on and he was getting cars repo'd. As it turns out the guy made about a million dollars a year, but he spent every cent of it so when he lost his job he was no different than a lot of people, up to his eyes in debt and no way to pay it.

Yep. It's not like someone else is losing out because this person is getting what amounts to an insurance payout.

I saw that same story and couldn't believe he didn't stash any money away for a rainy day

"17 with incomes in excess of $10 million"

that's ridiculous... one month you make million/month.... next month you go collecting $1k in unemployment benefits? wtf is wrong with people?

Households? So that means that one person there is rich but not collecting but other people in the house are collecting dole money?

I've paid into Government pensions, health care and unemployment schemes for over 40 years now. So now I'm too ill to work and in retirement I am entitled to get invalid and a pension. If I was unemployed I would get that as well. It's not a buffer against poverty, it's an entitlement to the money I paid into the system for decades. Plus the wealth I generated and taxes I paid with that.
