Booth Shit Stolen
 

So, I went down to my booth yesterday to finish up with the little stuff, when only to find out a bunch of shit had been stolen. Nothing major, just some invoices, tons of business cards, cell phone charger, etc. But when I went to complain, I found out other companies had the same problem. I guess a Dell computer tower was taken at $3000 value and a couple of routers and other shit. So, when your booth stuff gets back, if you are missing stuff, you may know why....

It was retarded...BH & L claim it wasn't their people (the union workers) but blame it on the cleaning crew. Either way, they are reimbursing us, but it's just retarded. Who wants business cards of some person who sells Big Cock for a living????

At least they are reimbursing you. Most convention centers have security around, but it's your responsiblity to make sure things don't get stolen. It always happens. :feels-hot

Yeah, it's so dumb...There was a box of them with like 2000 of them it in. It's not that big of a deal, it's just annoying that I have to go get them printed again. That sucks about your computer, I'm sorry. Guess I shouldn't complain about what got stolen!

We locked all of our shit up in the cabinets after the show was over. Now you know why.

I feel your pain. Everything that we left behind was ransacked and/or destroyed. It was all boxed up and marked with our name. We lost a dvd player, the rest of our Lightspeed jerseys, and all our cards, brochures, and flyers. All our banners were driven over by forklifts.

We had our bandoleers of fake bullets stolen from our booth. I have a feeling it was from show goers though as people kept asking me for our SEG bullets insisting we were giving them away.

Thats why we pack up the bus and drive it out of there about 2 hours after the show closes. We love pissing off the fucking teamster over there.

And as far as security, I think the youngest you can be to have a gaurd position there is 65 and seenile :1orglaugh

Nothing new at this dam show. We had a laptop bag ripped off at the last Vegas show during setup, while we were behind the fuckin booth!

I swear, if you don't buy their "booth security" they make it a point to rip you off. I have heard from many people that workers (union of course) there are doing crap like this at every show that goes through.

All i have to say is; don't mess with the one show that will have hidden cams setup in the booths broadcasting live all over the net if this keeps up.

Some fucker grabbed my credit cards the first night of the show and i had to come back and deal with making sure checks and junk were going to clear from my accounts..they were buying cell phones and getting gas at all the gas stations in vegas..dont know if it was a maid..or what..at the venetian though

When I exhibited the last day was a nightmare. A lot of people get in on borrowed/sold/found badges. We called them the "backward badge" guys because they would never let you see their name or company. Actually started to have a real problem with guys trying to grab the girls and shit like that. We were an all model booth- no male staff, and the largest one of us was like 5'2". Venetian Security was useless (kept asking to speak to "my boss"- last time a wear a skirt when I need to do business) and the last few hours were pretty hairy. Ended up having all the t-shirts and custom fortune cookies stolen. They really have to stay on top of the badge situation for the WHOLE show. I think that would stop a lot of this.

I say they move it to the new Mandalay Bay Convention Center. 3 years ago we "lost" a stereo system. Worthless COP security.

I was in the booth next to you, I kept hoping you'd come back for that stuff because it was pretty chaotic in there. The cleanup crews took the fabric off of the table where you had the stuff so after that it was basically sitting out in the open. I was there until almost 6:30 waiting for then to deliver our empties so we could finish packing. By the time we were done we had to rush to the airport to catch the flight home. It was all there when I left, but the hall was a mess.

Oh I saw the security guy, he was about 65 years old and sat in a corner up at the front enterance. I still think we should have the show at the Mandalay Bay or something, shit the mile walk from our rooms to the Expo is enough for me to want to change hotels.

Maybe move the show next year, between that and the c2k fuckups I hear about (I just left after seeing the line.. I didn't even see the VIP fuckup since I had normal passes)

I'm not so sure it's security... might be webmasters with a problem thinking they're gonna "be cool" or get money they think you owe them or something... who knows... children.
At the Monteal Cybernet Expo show the brand new wireless router was ripped off, VegasLee had to rush and buy one before the show started on the last day so everyone would have connection.

Stealing shit from Conventions is just low, when all of that stuff is being given away for free, not to mention all the food and booze as well.. it's just lame.

We gave away a DVD and an X-Box and I was worried that the people would get stopped on the way out, but they just walked out no questions.

Sorry to hear you got ripped. It's happened to me as well in the past, the whole thing is a grease job right from the get-go. It's designed to take as much of your money and merchandise as you will allow, case in point: You can only take something to your booth that is "easily transportable" by yourself.. so the rules usually say but i've seen guys try to roll in 1 box of stuff and get turned away because the union weasels have to get their piece of the nut as you pay by the pound to have anything moved from point a to b. Those scales built into the forklifts are slot machines on wheels except you never get three cherries.

I have also hung around after everyone was supposed to leave and seen what goes on.. every single schmuck with a rented uniform whether it be the person sweeping the floor, picking up boxes or "security" swarms all over any and every thing that is left out. It's just too easy. Cardboard boxes abound that have to be taken to the trash by the weasels, drop in a pile of t shirts *BAM* easy. Hey how about some sex toys, *WHAM* gone, pfft. Maybe your cellphone, pda, banner, radio, any t shirt or giveaway item, computer, monitor or periph is snack food for convention leech monsters.

General public (not webmasters) will also take their share but that's usually going to be any small item that can be picked up off your table (whether it's supposed to be or not). How many of you have been looking right at someone and had to tell them to put that shit down cause it wasn't for them to take?

We *need* to be able to lock that stuff up 100 percent, keep it out of sight so it's out of mind or it's gone but that's not really workable because you're there to display your goods, booths don't really have anything in the way of security so it's ripe pickings while the security bird snoozes at the door.

So after you've been picked over, cashed out and ripped off you still have the fun to look forward to off surprise damage from return freight when your booth box comes back in match stick form.

As I write this it occurs to me that it would make very good sense for the webmaster population to hire some of their own security to watch the other security who is supposed to be watching out for the webmasters.. and are, but only so far as to see them leave so they can snarf up some more shit to take home to uncle cletus.

When I do my Negril thing.. I always bring my own security to watch out for our people.. it doesn't cost that much, is not hard to do .. probably has paid for itself 100 times over.
