Mainstream SEO Companies

A lot of SEO company's are charging *maintenance* fees after they do their onsite SEO. So after the onsite SEO is complete they are charging you a nice $500 monthly fee for this service. They are not creating any back links for you, but charging you a fee.

Can someone please explain this to me? Is this not a massive scam? What software are they using to send their clients a monthly reports to make sure the $500 dollars they are spending has value?

Agent 488 09-30-2010 08:14 AM

seo services generally a scam.

pinkbits 09-30-2010 09:04 AM

But the never got back to me. There site only seems to except payments. I haven't been able to contact anyone unfortunately.

I know when I look for professional contractors, I like to go with the guys who have "Mad Cheap" as a part of the actual business name too. Something about it screams reliability... :2 cents::1orglaugh

Depends on the value they offer and the price.

The only "maintenance" fee should be if they are doing the link building for you as well, and even then the only "maintenance" would be after they hit your rank, they would need to "maintain" your rank as others would be trying to take the rank back from you.

$500 a month is not much when it comes to hiring an SEO firm. But what actually matters is what they are giving you back for that $500? ... a simple report of your ranking? Of course its not worth it then. Anyone can make that report easily and free.

But again, for someone who have no idea how to check ranking across different engines and datacenters and how to make analytical report taking your competition into consideration, this $500 a month could be reasonable. Or may be he just don't have enough time to spend on reporting.

Totally agree but they are charging these fees for doing NOTHING! Just google your city + SEO and look at packages.

My question is, what is some good software you can buy, co brand it to your company and send clients an overall report?

Domain Broker 09-30-2010 10:50 AM

maybe baddog can answer some of your questions.

Agent 488 09-30-2010 10:51 AM

yes i think baddog has some experience in these matters.

LeRoy 09-30-2010 10:58 AM

Did you by chance read any of this thread? :error

icymelon 09-30-2010 11:19 AM

if they aren't building you back links or pages with relevant information what seo are they providing. fixing your site to be seo optimized should be free when starting any campaign.

playa 09-30-2010 11:19 AM

seo is a continual process. i tell clients that it can take 6 months to a year to get good keyword rankings. thats where the monthly fee comes in. you should be getting so many backlinks and mini sites created a month with that fee.

good reporting software that many use is www.webceo.com

Anyway, the reason you never hire a mainstream SEO Company is because the smallest details can and will bring you a lot more money and traffic. SEO Companies skip these details because your account most mold into their "one size fits all" service structure.

i kinda of agree but seo is grunt work and alot of webmasters dont wanna deal with it

just dont pay for retail prices. go directly to the actual people that actually do this kinda of work.

you can get some decent filipino workers to do this stuff for about 1.50 an hour. but still you would need to know some seo and give them the proper instructions

Shhhh don't spoil my hideous on-page SEO prices :1orglaugh

to answer op, they probably give you a google analytics report at the end of each month lol.

Supz 09-30-2010 02:48 PM

A lot of SEO companies charge a monthly fee, for this charge you should still be getting some kind of service, not just get a fee for maintenance. Continuous link building/purchasing, link submissions, so on so forth. It usually doesn't take a 1 time deal to get the results you want. It is a continuous process.

Exactly. Or at least linkwheels and link exchange solicitations. Complete with weekly reports and SERP updates and free strategy sessions.

Brad Gosse 10-01-2010 05:28 AM

One of my companies charges an ongoing fee but it includes content creation and publishing.

Nobody should charge you for on site monthly unless they are optimizing updates.

Quoted for the Truth.

If you get back into adult, let me know. I offer monthly verification and updates for my backlinking clients. That is the only way to grow the backlinks.

Better to email them to send you reports. Also, please keep in mind that inbound links does not show immediately. it usually take take weeks or months before you will start seing inbound links pointing to your site. It is better if you setup google webmaster tools to check inbound links to your site than using any tools available online.

Domain Broker 10-01-2010 08:03 AM

no comment from baddog yet, not a good sign for the seo industry.

We hired them to do the same thing. Creating back links and some consultation. They charged us monthly but the service was completed and we're using them for other sites.

FreeHugeMovies 10-01-2010 11:10 AM

I'm kind of looking for SEO consulting software, things to automate reports for clients who want SEO help.

niche25 10-01-2010 01:39 PM

probably paying for rented links.
