Bagged Milk!!!

http://web.archive.org/web/200211221...articles/milk/

The first time I heard of this back in like 02 or so I didn't believe my canadian friend and thought he was just fucking with me. Every single aspect of bagged milk boggles my mind and is extremely hilarious to me for some reason.

Spunky 09-29-2010 09:42 PM

It used to be called Homo milk too at one time

Agent 488 09-29-2010 09:45 PM

not funny at all. bagged milk serious business.

heymatty 09-29-2010 09:46 PM

Yea milk in bags was one of the weirdest things about living in Canada. They must of phased that out by now though surely? Mind you it took quite some time to phase out the mullet.

don't hate.

Jdoughs 09-29-2010 09:48 PM

Milk in bags is the ONLY way to go.

Milk in cartons tastes like CARTON.

"Wow gross, that milk tastes like container" he exclaimed to his pet seal.

Jdoughs 09-29-2010 09:49 PM

Also, on a psychological level, tell me they aren't the perfect 'fun bags'.

No wonder we love them.

In high school we had milk in plastic bags, reminded me of breast implants.

A friend in Toronto I was talking to earlier was so shocked and amused by the fact that most of the rest of the world does not purchase milk in bags that he called his wife to tell her, apparently ignorant of this fact until today.

Milk in bags, chips in boxes.

Ahh the west.

u-Bob 09-30-2010 01:36 AM

bagged milk = one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.

martinsc 09-30-2010 01:41 AM

bagged milk is very common here, but boxes and bottles as well...

Sarah_Jayne 09-30-2010 02:09 AM

Even though my parents are in Pennsylvania they get bagged milk. I am sure it is a farmer's market thing around there. They get orange juice that way too.

I have seen one store chain in the UK sell the jugs but not the bags. What's the point in that?

BlackCrayon 09-30-2010 05:05 AM

im rocking bagged milk right now. what do other people do? big plastic jugs? you can still get milk in big plastic jugs but they are typically only available in convience stores like beckers or macs. cartons are fine if you don't have a family or drink much milk...when you can buy a 3pack of 1 litre milk bags, i'd rather do that than 3 1 litre cartons.

cardinalvices 09-30-2010 05:09 AM

what are you all talking about? Bagged milk is found here in every grocery store, no shit. it was here for as long as I can remember. Costs less than carton.

Sainhsbury's sell it.

80p for a 2 pint bag.

That is where I have seen the jugs but never the bags. Not in my branch anyway. My mom used to buy the bags because it was easier to stack in the freezer for the winter since they live in a place that gets snowed in.

CaptainHowdy 09-30-2010 06:01 AM

I like mine in a glass bottle...

Slick 09-30-2010 06:52 AM

I've never heard of bagged milk either. Here we only have it in jugs mainly or you can get the organic fancy milk in the white cartons.

MrBottomTooth 09-30-2010 06:52 AM

I don't like milk in bags, but the point of it is that it immensely reduces the amount of waste in a landfill.

You can squish the bag up into the size of a golf ball, compared to a large plastic container that takes up a lot of space.

been in bags since the early 70's that I know of

candyflip 09-30-2010 06:55 AM

I haven't seen cartons in years and we've never had bags in Western NY, as close as we are to that Ontario faggotry someone already mentioned.

gmr324 09-30-2010 06:56 AM

have never seen that but I can see the eco logic..does sounds kind of appealing

pornguy 09-30-2010 06:56 AM

Ours comes in a box. :)http://richland.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/milk.jpg

PR_Glen 09-30-2010 07:02 AM

this thread is hilarious.. i didn't even know that bags were centralized in canada mostly.. I've been drinking it in bags my whole life...(circa '77) I shop in the US all the time, i just didn't notice if they had bags or not...

we have jugs too, but bags are far more convenient and have zero after taste at all. Its like drinking coke in glass bottles apposed to plastic or cans, you notice the difference...

cwd 09-30-2010 07:21 AM

I remember as a kid visiting my grandma and we would have milk delivered to her house in glass...that was awesome....since they would deliver ice cream too.

Agent 488 09-30-2010 08:12 AM

HomerSimpson 09-30-2010 08:31 AM

it can be still found in here...

Canada Pavilion at Epcot :) Coffee Crisps and Test Track were my sole reason to visit the park.

I hate bags of milk. I get my gallon jugs at Mac's convenience store instead. Apparently bags of milk are only really prevalent in Ontario and Quebec.

I remember the bags of milk in the milk cartons in the coolers at the store when I was little (Vancouver area). Haven't seen them lately, but I assume they're still in the rural areas. I prefer milk in bottles, but it's a bit expensive and you only get single litres that way.

They still sell them. It's usually on the top shelf in the middle of the chip aisle. :)

How is a plastic container different then the plastic bag? isnt plastic plastic? I buy milk by the gallon in plastic containers with a screw on lid.

_Richard_ 09-30-2010 05:44 PM

i totally forgot about it hahaha

And when that fresh jug is gone, you throw it away (or recycle your it).

Imagine buying a 2l of Coke, then storing it in a plastic jug in the fridge, and drink it over the next couple days. It would wreck it (forget the carbonation, I mean the taste of it), it would taste like 'fridge' or 'container' not like a freshly poured glass of soda.

Not that much to explain, it's the taste. Buy a plastic jug, like a 2l juice jug, and drink milk out of it for a week or two and then report back.

You will taste the difference.

Chris 09-30-2010 05:51 PM

The first time i went to Canada as a child we stayed with some family friends and they had bagged milk - it really messed with my mind.

You silly canadians ;)

You still have to get the milk to the house somehow. See my post above re: landfill wasted space.
