Scientists find inhabitable Earth-like planet Finally

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100929/...sci_new_earths

Could 'Goldilocks' planet be just right for life?

I wonder if people live there. Aliens? Do they have internet? or are they way beyond or are we more advanced? I hope they explore the shit out of it, would be a trip to find life on other planets finally.

WASHINGTON ? Astronomers say they have for the first time spotted a planet beyond our own in what is sometimes called the Goldilocks zone for life: Not too hot, not too cold. Juuuust right.

Not too far from its star, not too close. So it could contain liquid water. The planet itself is neither too big nor too small for the proper surface, gravity and atmosphere.

It's just right. Just like Earth.

"This really is the first Goldilocks planet," said co-discoverer R. Paul Butler of the Carnegie Institution of Washington.

The new planet sits smack in the middle of what astronomers refer to as the habitable zone, unlike any of the nearly 500 other planets astronomers have found outside our solar system. And it is in our galactic neighborhood, suggesting that plenty of Earth-like planets circle other stars.

Finding a planet that could potentially support life is a major step toward answering the timeless question: Are we alone?

Scientists have jumped the gun before on proclaiming that planets outside our solar system were habitable only to have them turn out to be not quite so conducive to life. But this one is so clearly in the right zone that five outside astronomers told The Associated Press it seems to be the real thing.

"This is the first one I'm truly excited about," said Penn State University's Jim Kasting. He said this planet is a "pretty prime candidate" for harboring life.

The Aliens that are smarter than humans would be able to view the Internet.

Mars and Venus are in the "Goldilocks Zone", too. Just saying...

Do you think the alien adult content producers have found a way to fight piracy? How advanced are their tube sites?

Sergio Payingsolutions 09-29-2010 07:01 PM

Thank god, was looking to move to someplace less cramped.

DaddyHalbucks 09-29-2010 07:50 PM

Cool, maybe we can ship all the Progressives, Stalinists, Maoists, Communists and Obama supporters there. They can create a workers paradise, a safe distance from Earth.

It answers the timeless question, not "are we alone" but where we can relocate to next when we finish off our current planet and fubar it.

They better get working with better space ships so they can get us there before this one is too far beyond repare.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of as well.

Nonetheless, it's pretty damn hard to imagine there not being inhabited planets out there and plenty of them too. Luckily for everyone involved they're too far away for visits now or ever.

Zorgman 09-29-2010 10:50 PM

The guy was saying it would take 200 years just to get satellite pictures back.

no room for anyone who disagrees with how you think things should be? too bad you can't put them all in a camp or something and kill them.

ReggieDurango 09-30-2010 05:01 AM

I hope, for the most part, that the chicks on that planet aren't as prude as the ones here on Earth.

I'm so sick of earthling blueballers. Maybe on the planet, chicks are HORNIER than dudes. Utopia.

Firestarter30 09-30-2010 05:12 AM

Question is : Does aliens watch porn too? Are they mastrubating also?

To be serious now , those are great news.
But the article didnt mentioned if they calculated the planet's gravitational acceleration. Which is important to substain life

Kinda depends on who gets where first. Just ask the inhabitants of Briton when the Romans came or more closely the American Indians when the Europeans came. The arriving civilization usually wipes out the peoples of the lands they come across. Might wanna be careful for what ya wish for.

I'm glad they are so far away - that way 'we' can't screw it up again

Yea, just give us a couple of hundred years or less there and we can pollute that place too

Davy 09-30-2010 07:24 AM

How long does it take to get there?
Mankind is doomed. Most if not all of us will probably die out before we can even think about going there.

I don't think that's necessary since the conservatives, teabaggers, Christians and Reagan lovers continue to outnumber the progressives by continuing to spawn indiscriminantly and continue to pollute the planet.

Earlier this week a group of former Air Force officers had a press conference in DC, where they detailed how their reports of "flying saucers" hovering over American SAC bases, and actually deactivating our nuclear weapons, were being ignored by higher-ups.

As usual, these stories get overlooked as the claims of kooks, even when air base commanders are the ones making those claims.

Won't be long before the muslims take over the planet. Doesn't take them long to take over everywhere else...

I agree with you. That makes perfect sense. Whoever can get there is obviously the more advanced species. Then the more advanced species destroys the less advanced to take their resources and land.

Actually in all those cases it was a matter of greater technology or greater numbers. The defending people actually have the advantage of being on their own land.

You can find many cases in history where the invading civilization failed but you can see why these failures didn't become popularised through history. Losers are rarely remembered.
