What you think so far of "Boardwalk Empire" ???

First episode I gave it a chance...

I am watching the second one now and wondering why Steve Buschemi hasnt fixed his teeth yet? I am sure he makes good money to get em fixed?

thoughts?

it would ruin his character..he usually plays similar type roles...and non perfect teeth probably help him fit those roles

Jim_Gunn 09-27-2010 07:43 PM

I am enjoying it. Great period flavor & set design, good acting. Buscemi is great as always.

I think it's pretty crappy, Steve Buscemi should never have gotten lead role, only person who was cast properly was the Jew and the bad ass agent guy.

Pipecrew 09-27-2010 08:22 PM

Al Capone was cast well also

Steve Buscemi is probaly the most respected actor on television now. Who else is there? Charlie Sheen?

Also - why WOULD he fix his teeth? Have you seen his face? Fixing the teeth wouldn't help unless he made a huge commitment to go under the knife. I'm sure his teeth don't hurt him and they're all in good shape - maybe not lined up all pretty and nice, but I'm sure they're fine by him. Nothing says "reality" like a '20s era gangster with teeth from 2010. Actually, they should be a LOT worse.

Now I'm imagining Steve Buscemi wearing braces.

Besides, the fucking show is set in the '20s. His teeth should be worse. Michael Pitt is almost 30 - not nineteen as he tells "Al Capone". Its fiction. The casting was brilliant.

Its a good show. I like it.

hey to each their own I would never think buscemi is a "the most respected actor on television", I think buscemi belongs as a supporting role which he is good at and has always stayed at for good reason, who can stand to listen to his helium sucking voice for an hour.. or buy that he is a tough guy? Like his supporting role in Sopranos was good and just as he was getting annoying, boom they killed him off.

I think the Capone character and blondie kid both suck at acting, and the plots are predictable and the whole thing is just writer/director masturbation that was overhyped. But worse shows have made it 5 seasons.. best of luck to em since Dexter went to shit not much competition on Sunday night anymore.

campimp 09-27-2010 08:59 PM

not loving it yet, but these HBO / Showtime mini-series usually take me a while to enjoy

Toni 09-27-2010 10:31 PM

I watched only the first episode and liked it

sicone 09-27-2010 10:33 PM

I'm enjoying the show and think it's going to have a great run.

As far as his teeth, he's kinda known for a fucked up grill. Why fuck with it.

Martin 09-27-2010 10:34 PM

I like it so far, but I've always liked old mafia stories/movies.

xNetworx 09-27-2010 10:37 PM

Like it. Don't love it, yet.

Sarah_Jayne 09-28-2010 04:15 AM

Steve Buschemi is great and fixed teeth would just make him less him.

Sergio Payingsolutions 09-28-2010 04:39 AM

I kinda like it, but it's hard not to enjoy watching a guy that controls a town do his thing. I don't think the show has kicked into high gear though, so far it's been more interesting than amazing.

gmr324 09-28-2010 06:10 AM

I agree they could have cast a tougher persona actor in Buschemi's role. He played more of a weasel character on the Sopranos. I could picture Joe Pesci or Russell Crowe playing the tougher megalomaniac type that role requires. Entertaining show though.

They should have picked a relatively unknown just like they did when they cast Gandalfini in sopranos.

Robbie 09-28-2010 07:13 AM

I like it.

As usual...HBO and Showtime RULE television. It just makes broadcast television with all of it's censorship look even crappier. The writers, actors, and directors are all on pay cable.

And isn't this the first and only time that Martin Scorcese has done small screen? It sure looks great. I'm really enjoying it.

iSpyCams 09-28-2010 07:41 AM

Could be another Deadwood. Interesting show that never really goes anywhere.

lagwagon 09-28-2010 07:42 AM

shits dope, curious is Omar from the wire is going to own some face.

Kenny B! 09-28-2010 07:47 AM

I'm enjoying it, it's no Sopranos replacement but it's good, just slower paced than I expected.

fatfoo 09-28-2010 07:47 AM

There could be value in watching a person with good teeth.

bronco67 09-28-2010 07:49 AM

I've read that from the six episodes critics watched, the first was the weakest -- and that was pretty good -- so I think it will get even better.

dasexi1 09-28-2010 07:51 AM

Im lovin' it...

CPA37710T 09-28-2010 07:52 AM

You guys remember his character on a nickelodeon show called "pete & pete"?

Sarah - GTS 09-28-2010 08:12 AM

I really like Al Capone's character, love the show so far

It's on my list, I'll see it.
Funny thing about his tooth, you're right...he's quite a character...

sexdatesj 09-28-2010 10:02 AM

I like it, good stuff!

patmccrotch 09-28-2010 10:13 AM

turned it of 3/4ths through the first episode and deleted the series record off my DVR. Scorcese is past his expire date.

SpongeBub 09-28-2010 10:15 AM

Boring as hell. Buscemi is horribly miscast - the guy is completely non-threatening. He was okay as Tony's klutzy cousin who managed to get his foot run over while botching a hit. But as a big-time tough guy - no way.

It kills me that they wasted 20 million on this when they could have made more Rome episodes. Now that would have been good.

RKmatt 09-28-2010 11:09 AM

Dont get so caught up with Steve. I think that the Jimmy character is going to become very interesting. That dynamic between Nucky - the big old school guy, and Jimmy - the young violent one who represents a new era can create good conflict. Plus the conflict within Jimmy - family man, but scared by WWI. etc etc

candyflip 09-28-2010 11:56 AM

The stuff on HBO and Showtime are pretty much the only reason to pay for cable.

donkevlar 09-28-2010 01:27 PM

The show is SOOO fucking good... and LOL at "predictable plot". Wow, you can predict history? BRILLIANT!

My father agrees with you, but I think Buscemi is perfect. He's a slickster, not a thug so i think he fits great.

Vendzilla 09-28-2010 02:20 PM

not impressed yet

Deadwood died because it costs too much to cast the entire show with extras and townspeople.

I see the same thing happening. Too much town / extras needed to make the show look good.

I like the show so far. Great titties and a decent story to boot

poncabare 09-28-2010 04:26 PM

developing characters always takes time

I think it's cool they decided not to cast an actor with a stereotypically tough look and personality. In reality not all tyrants look and act like we'd expect them to, which could also serve as shock value as the series moves along.

ShellyCrash 09-28-2010 05:59 PM

I liked the first episode but the second one was a little muddy. The 3rd one is gonna need to be better than the second one to keep me watching.

I don't think the Nucky character calls for someone physically intimidating, IMO kinda the opposite. The character has to be someone who can blend with both local politicians and the Prohibition movement. It's not really a "Johnny Stugots" type role.

SomeCreep 09-28-2010 05:59 PM

I stopped watching it after the first 20 minutes. Thought it was boring as shit.
