Cliff Burton of Metallica......

On September 27, 1986, Burton died when the band's tour bus skidded and flipped over in rural southern Sweden. Burton was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Metallica on April 4, 2009. His father, Ray Burton, gave a speech on Cliff's behalf.

It's the anniversary of his death.

The man who influenced me to really drop the guitar and start playing bass, but not play it like everyone else was playing...

I remember the excitement of finally playing "Anesthesia" all the way through for the first time...

and of course, one of the greatest opening bass riffs of all time...

Nice catch. Metallica has remained unchanged with the exception of bass player.

Metallica was still considered underground when I saw them in 1984 on the " Ride The Lightning" tour. Cliff was fucking awesome. The show happened in a small theater that held roughly 700 banging heads. To see them perform in such an intimate setting before they really became mainstream and no longer played those type of smaller venues is something I will always be grateful for. Great memories. Hard to believe that much time has passed since his death. R.I.P. Cliff
