How many of you guys use torrents for tv shows?
How many of you guys use torrents for tv shows? Even though they are available on tv, just dont have the time to watch them or forget to pvr them?
The benefit of downloading something is you can watch it whenever you want, instead of during a scheduled time.
I don't care enough about TV to torrent it or PVR it. If I happen to catch my shows - fine. If I miss them - life goes on.
For my favourite American shows, sure do.
I do.
But,90% of the shows I download are not on TV anymore-Or DVD. |
I stream TV Shows. Ninja Video used to be the shit. I'm settling for TV Shack now...
I don't like risking my ISp coming after me just because I wanted to see a TV show that I can just DVR. I don't torrent anything anymore.
I don't torrent anything. This would be extremely contradictory to me being in the adult industry and not supporting content theft! At least that's my official statement. :-P
i used to, i dont go on torrent sites anymore because they are always loaded with viruses.
torrents are too slow. I use usenet.
I'll dl foreign shows and anything I can't watch/DVR because I'm already recording 2 things at once. I watch a lot of tv. :(
I find downloading shows from EZTV is convenient.
I have a few times in the past, but since getting a DVR a few years ago I don't think I have at all.
well i certainly do
i like the fact that when someone tells a show is good long after show has aired (supernatural) i can simply download everything i missed |

Sometimes but it's rare. I missed Big Bang Theory this week so I downloaded it and just finished watching it.
Never used torrents for anything.
Several of the TV channels here have online catchup. Nothing is too important to miss though. |
I do because if i wait for the shows to show here it would 1-2 years. If they are on tv then no.
Hulu is better quality and if you want the old series Its 10$ a month.

Amazing how many think otherwise. |
i boycott torrents, it's the source of all evil when it comes to content theft
Hulu quality doesn't compare to the quality of the files you are able to download online. I've got the Hulu Plus and not quite a replacement for cable...yet. I have a basic cable account with hbo, because they pretty much give me both just to keep me subscribed. I download and hoard pretty much everything I watch. Thankfully I'm not having to record to VCR tapes and have all those laying around.
Downloads in HD format beats Hulu's "HD Quality" every time. I have my TV downloads all set up and scheduled much like a DVR, which can only handle two shows at once. |
I get my Stern, Colbert, Daily Show, South Park all from torrent. TV sucks.
and you guys are surprised that surfers steal porn? :1orglaugh

The thing is, most shows on the major networks, you can just go to their site and watch new entire episodes.
My cable provider puts a lot of current shows/movies/tv series etc into a section called Video On Demand. I just click in there and watch any missed episodes any time I feel like it. New episodes usually get entered in there about 5 days to a week after they first run on tv. And it's all free except for the newest rental movies.
So no torrenting for me. |

There is something missing in this thread.....
Oh yeah! Michael O .... asking for people's epass usernames and threatening to close their accs!? |

if you want to timeshift a tv show using the torrents pay for the station that airs it in your country. |

Oh and Netflix just came out in Canada, $7.99 a month, free trial for a month, all streaming. I watch that on my media center on the big TV and on my second monitor in a window or full screen while I work. |

Why use torrents when direct downloads are so much faster and less risky...
I getting max speeds on tvtorrents.com .Regarding piracy,i downloading it because that is only way to see my favorite shows,i cant buy it nor see it on tv here.If there would be a service where i would be able to watch episode of show for 2$,then i would pay for it.
Not only do I have a DVR...but if I forget to set it up at the beginning of a season for instance...I also have FREE Cox Cable On Demand. And it has the last episodes for a month for free.
So I just tune into channel 1 and click what I missed. No need for shitty torrents or possibly getting into trouble or downloading a trojan, etc. |

And the HD quality on the downloads is identical to that of the cable TV feed. The On Demand service doesn't carry the entire back catalog either. Hulu and Netflix are actually the better option for the old back catalogs. I can't recall ever hearing anything about the TV Networks going after torrent users. |

put up openvpn on your usa servers - > go visit hulu |

And yeah, the on demand is no good for old stuff. I was referring to if I happened to miss a recent episode of something. If I am a fan of something...I'll go buy the DVD season collection (if it's available) or the movie on BluRay. But I'm not really a fan of television shows to that extent anyway. Once I watch it one time, I'm done with it. The only things I keep are concert movies because I'm a musician and I love music. But again, I buy those since I'm a fan of all the bands that I collect. And I think the TV networks have went at it differently. Their programming is already free. It's not the product that they sell....so they are all ad based. So with that business model they have pretty much all set up archived seasons on their network websites to watch. I only mentioned "getting in trouble" because I don't particularly want to take any chances of going to a site that does contain stolen content and having my IP identified etc. I like to keep under the radar. :) |

There are precautions you can take when downloading torrents, but so long as you're not downloading the crap cam copies that get released the day the movies come out you won't send up any red flags. I don't know about Cox cable, but Time Warner knows exactly what I'm doing...as I told them at one point I wanted to cut the cable entirely because I was downloading using the internet service. That's when they offered me the basic package plus HBO for like $15 a month. As a live music fan, there's a HUGE assortment of stuff on the torrents. And much of at the ok of the band. Pretty much every day this summer I was able to download the Kiss concert from the night before. Old live bootlegs that people used to trade on VHS tapes are also available. Torrents aren't for everyone, and yes...they can be abused. But like most things that are abused, they weren't initially intended to abused like they are. As a distribution method, it's a pretty great system. I have no problems downloading anything that shows up on the TV. The TV biz doesn't seem to have a huge hard on for downloaders. Movies on the other hand, I don't often take the risk...and if I do, it's because I know that the Bluray will be delivered to my house upon release. |
I use torrents for movies and shows. You have to wait to be shown on TV, but like this you can watch it whenever you like.........
Never, I pay a shit load for all the channels direct tv has along with memberships to Netflix and Time Warner on demand. My sports and entertainment are important since I work so much. It's worth every dime if you have a nice TV and get the HD packages.
ya america has better options tv wise.
I don't watch much TV, not enough free time lol
BUT I DVR everything and then just watch when I have time (or as background noise while I work) -Loki- |

i download about a tb a month and usually every pilot that doesn't look too stupid. i watch tv torrents while im working which is about 12 hours a day. some of it i burn but most i delete after a few weeks. as far as movies, my goal is to build a massive server with a dozen 2tb drives so all my movies are on demand. the pricing is still a little out of reach - even in Asia - but its getting down there. funny thing, in Thailand, guys burn torrents to DVD and sell them at every market. costs about $3. |
i just use a simple rapidshare search. :)
