The only people I know who shot in Japan were shooters from the Score Group. Their experience was that it was very expensive.

In my experience of shooting porn most things are doable, just not profitable.

Hahaha... I've shot for PimpRoll in the past, and know how savvy they are, and how huge they are in the biz. You obviously thought I was a newbie, and totally missed the irony in my post. Never mind . . . .

So far 1/2 the guys in the office have asked to go to Japan to source the content.

very tough, the Japanese porn industry which is called 'JAV' has no interest in doing business with the West, hence why you see their content ripped off by so many Western porn paysites who claim to be legit- they aren't. The Japanese have a different attitude towards copyright theft than we do, it's so rampant in Asia that they just accept the fact their content is being pirated outside Japan and go about their own business.

Photography in Japanese porn is much more valued in Japan, softcore nude and non-nude hardcover books called 'gravure' are huge there. They have their own style, the backgrounds are all white or light pastel colors, looks great with the pale complexions of the models. Clothing is very non-porn-ish, girls wear trendy Japanese fashions and really nice lingerie/underwear. It's not glamour, it's more towards fashion and artistic nude in style.

And supposedly the entire Japanese porn industry is controlled by the Yakuza. The models are recruited in public in Tokyo's most trendy fashion district, Shibuya, by agencies/scouts. They are also paid extremely well, contract stars for the top JAV studios make much more than a VIVID Girl does.

Mutt brings up some good points here. Asian has always sold if the girl is cute/attractive. So why isn't there more good shooters working in countries like Japan where it's legal to shoot glamor erotica. And why is so much of the stuff on Tubes amateur crap?

If it is Japanese content you are after, as someone who has been shooting in Asia for the last decade, I can tell you that unless you get someone who already is "in" the Japanese scene, you're not going to find what you're looking for. It will also be a lot more expensive that you think it will be should you find someone who can do it.

88squared.com, ThaiCuties.com (and a few others) do their version of that with Thai girls, but even the prettiest Thai girl still looks like a whore (because they are) while Japanese girls are truly beautiful in every sense of the word. Based on your example, that is what I believe you are going for. However, if you lower your expectations a little and don't mind some dolled up South East Asian hookers, that will be much easier to find.

My 2 cents: If it is Japanese you are after, don't waste your time and money on someone unless they have already been shooting there for a while. If you don't mind dolled up Thai hookers, there are a few guys around here who can do that. But know, there is a huge difference between the two when selling an Asian site. If you don't know the difference, don't start on the project until you do.
