health insurance is a fucking joke

$300/mo for some health insurance that is impossible to use. I've been waiting over a month now for two prescriptions (one for Nexium for acid reflux and another for an allergy medicine).

Insurance company required that the doctor send in a pre-authorization form. Done. Three weeks later after failed attempts to pick it up, they say they need some other form from the doctor because no generics are available. Done. Past two weeks I'm on the phone with them today and they say "we need another form filled out and we will fax it to their office tomorrow"

REALLY? Meanwhile they said for me to just buy the Rx and I can submit a claim but (and this is what the lady told me) it wont go through and I wont get my money back because it was not authorized at the time.

Fucks sake, this is ridiculous and I have to sit and wait because I can't even buy the Rx anymore because it was past the 10 days to pick it up :mad:

Those meds were covered under your 'Virtual' insurance. It is not available at this time.

OneHungLo 09-23-2010 02:04 PM

What insurance company is that?

I've been paying for my own health insurance for about 12 years and I've only used to 2 or 3 times but whenever i needed any type of medicine I just went to the DR and he cut me a prescription...I never had to wait.

BTW, I have Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO.

IllTestYourGirls 09-23-2010 02:04 PM

Health insurance is just out right wrong. Good thing the United States is forcing its citizens to buy a product that is directly related to the massive problem in our health care system.

I'm with the same company and I've had the same experience. No problems at all.

How else would people pay for things like cancer treatments and heart surgery without insurance? Just one set of lab tests can easily run you in the thousands. If you are actually hospitalized time to go bankrupt.

GregE 09-23-2010 04:22 PM

Here's hoping that they relent and finally spring for your meds.

Private insurance sucks. Single payer, like the rest of the civilized world has, is the way to go.

Failing that, we should go back to what we had before Obama.

This business of mandating citizens to purchase overpriced health insurance from the same crooked companies that have in the past quite literally murdered people is beyond fucked up.

i wish they would let me pay 300$ a month for insurance

i cant get anyone to even accept me ;/

If you got rid of insurance the costs would drastically go down.

maybe its time for a different insurance company you could go with a cheaper plan and then just pay for the meds yourself. its the real expensive stuff that you need insurance for.

And if the GOP takes over and repeals "Obamcare" expect things to get even worse. If the GOP has to decide who to cater to; the average American or the insurance and pharmicudical companies which side do you think they'll choose?

SallyRand 09-23-2010 05:16 PM

Your insurance is in motion and damned sure keeping YOU in motion trying to get something done!

Just sayin'.

Sally.

Undoing Obama care will undo the back room deals that Obama made with big pharm and big insurance. New studies have found that health care costs will now grow at a faster pace under the health care bill than if nothing was done at all.

... only in america ... fuck, go on hols in CUBA and you get better and faster med treats :2 cents: (even your 9-11 firemen heroes got treated there - BETTER than they were treated in their HOME country) ... the US and health care = 3rd world country :(

I don't know how much you have sitting around in your checking account, but I don't see costs for that kind of shit going down enough to be covered out of pocket by anyone I know.

Having said that, I still maintain that mandating the purchase of health insurance from private companies is wrong.

Spunky 09-23-2010 06:23 PM

50 bucks a month and all the free healthcare I need

Supz 09-23-2010 06:25 PM

That is not insurance, that is just shitty insurance. I have my doctor call in Rx all the time and I just go pick them up, no matter what it is.

Aetna

AmeliaG 09-23-2010 07:28 PM

That sucks about your insurance, bossku69.

The US government permits big business to buy big business insurance with massive tax breaks (versus if they just properly paid the workers and let them manage their own earnings.) Most workers still have copays of one sort or another and amounts deducted from their paycheck above and beyond employer contribution.

If you add up all the money that is spent on insurance for an average American family over a lifetime, even if every single member needs something major like cancer care of heart surgery or kidney transplants, the overall cost for all that insurance plus employee contribs will still equal more than just the family's medical care alone.

Argos88 09-23-2010 10:11 PM

Lol, I have similar problems with my health insurance and it's damn expensive...

I may swtich over to another one soon.

Health insurances are doing a lot of money, they are one of the biggest business right now in the western world. Along with Pharmaceutics...

So for example lets say you need 100k worth of treatment. You think that would go down to what say 50K or 50% or what? I still don't see the average person being able to pay 20k-50k for a semi major surgery/hospitalization and that is assuming costs would go down by 50-80%. I agree with the costs being ridiculously high. But you can go to Mexico and get insurance that covers 100% of everything for about 300 bucks per year and I mean a real 100% not with the BS fine print insurance companies get away with here. It's not just the insurance that drives up costs and its completely possible to have insurance and reasonable medical costs.
