Hype that fizzled... Projects / people that were all hype and then fizzled. (post them)
 

Every week someone is hyping something, the next "big thing" they go on and on telling you why it will be great, it will make tons of money, they don't listen to anyone else and a couple weeks later you never hear about it again. I know this happens all the time, but post the most memorable ones that you can think of over the years.

A few I can remember:

- Chico the pirate and his 3rd party billing system
- Pimpdog's board Why-Fuckyourself
- SleazyDream and YesSignals

Post'em if you remember the hype, but it turned out to be fizzle. If you remember anything that people hyped that actually did turn out to do well post that too. I can't think of any of those.

Didn't KB have some sort of celebrity dirt gossip site or something? Whatever happened to that?

I remember APC (adultplayersclub) and their 'It's coming soon" ads here. I know they haven't fizzled but pretty close.

I remember someone buying up sigs that had a chili in the banner....chili something or other and it never came to fruition.

They may not have been as revolutionary as they had hoped, but a lot of people did make good money with their sites. I would not call APC a flop by any means. Really no different than many of the other programs that came out over the years.

what was the site in sigs about 2-3 years ago that said "Coming soon" and they bought up tons of sigs but I don't think it ever launched... cart before horse.

Oh yeah, I think I still get an odd sale to them, and never really meant they flopped, more like fizzled. Just stopped hearing about them and seeing them everywhere.

Pink.tv? Remember the plane in florida advertising the previous night's party? It was going to be an adults-only set-top-box for the TV I think. I think it was Pink.tv anyway.

I remember something like XTV but their url may have been pink.tv and they were a set top box.

This kind of thing usually happens when someone has a really good idea (A truly good idea, or good in their own head), and then announces it before doing enough research. Sometimes it turns out to cost alot more to develop then people plan, or they hit unexpected road blocks which might be too expensive or time consuming to go around. Sometimes a "great idea" is hyped just to get investors in on a deal, or is hyped to market-test an idea before development. We've been there, done that, learned our lessons, argh....painful.

Here is another I just remembered: AllXClub the first Adult MLM program. It was promoted and hyped heavy here for about 3 days then faded away.

ah that was what all the prepaid sig where for right? What the hell was the company suppose to be anyway, I don't think it ever launched.

While I wouldn't call it overly hyped, PaySaint was a project I was involved with to provide ePassporte with some competition that was fully developed and ready for launch and the final banking issues never met resolution.

Of course, it was going to do a lot more than be a debit card system and what made it unique (worldwide local bank transfers in 24 hours) was also the part that ended up being the biggest obstacle and ultimately the reason for its demise.

Unfortunately, it wasn't even a technical or feasibility problem, but money-laundering/policy problems.

Would have been perfect to have right around this time :winkwink:

Or, possibly it would be going through the same problems as ePassporte right now...who knows.

Yeah I remember them....They paid you with handwritten checks...Then their PPS self destructed and they switched to revshare and then disappeared....But for that first month, they were selling like hotcakes.

Hanco? I think it was... huge ass booth, crazy booth, wild money spent all around, etc.. basically fell flat the moment it attempted to release.

Most of my "projects" haven't worked out like I would of liked them to.

I would have to give the true success to those who actually tried, even if they failed.

Before you mock these people / companies, please list your achievements as well as your failures. If you are any kind of a businessman, you've had plenty of both.
