"Borat" star Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play flamboyant rocker Freddie Mercury in a dramatic feature focusing on his glory days as the frontman of Queen, its producers said on Thursday.

Good to see that Roger Taylor and Brian May are in on it for the music side of things.

I have a feeling he is going to kickass in this movie...

Until I read that I could never imagine him as Freddy. But now that I think about it, he'd be perfect for it. Not many could pull that role off successfully!

i was wondering when Cohen would do a major dramatic role because just by seeing his comedy you know the guy is a superb actor.
he's been waiting for the right thing to come along and this is going to be a good one.

Freddie was over the top, always was, so I can see this happening. Was a big fan till the disco album, I'll go see the movie

Read the title and laughed, then reminded myself of Ashten, and Ryan Reynolds I bet he kicks some ass as Freddie

btw Roger Taylor the insanely great drummer for Queen did some solo stuff way back when.
if you ever get a chance check out "Fun In Space" which imo is better than some queen albums.

brian may went on to do alot of movie soundtracks- one of the great rock guitarists of all time, i would probably put him in the top 5.

SBC is going to KICK ASS in this role! I've always been a huge Queen fan, and I'm really looking forward to seeing this now!

Same here. I didnt even like him too much. But after a though he will be perfect - he resembles him and he showed in Bruno he knows how to play gays. Perfect choice!

ps:Caligari, I for one miss deacon the most, too bad he completely withdrew from public life/music. But I can understand him - without Freddie it just isnt the same..

one things for sure, unless cohen can sing like a god they are going to over dub.

even though there are a few musical features where the actor actually sings the tunes, i don't think any actor could actually sing well enough to simulate Mercury.

come to think of it, i've never heard any other singer who sounds like Mercury.

He looks like him, but honestly I don't know how good his serious acting is going to be. Just watch the Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Seems like all he can do is over the top accents and parodies.

He was a very unique person, thats for sure. And Queen was a very unique band.

But I like the idea of making a movie about them.

He did a surprisingly good job in Sweeney Todd

he can definitely do justice to that role

Just the other day i was watching the '86 Wembley concert.
EPIC!

And I think Cohen is a VERY talented man and he will nail this role for sure.
