I could say it's about genetics, but then I would be wrong. You talk about North America, this means that settlers from all over the world came to North America to live there. Why are the voices nasal and annoying? Maybe because people have been watching Simpsons cartoons - these characters have nasal voices most of the time. On the good side, I think the voice of the singer called Karen O can be very soothing at times.

The casting people pick the stars of the shows and this just reflects what the
casting people think is "cool".

It's just something that caught my attention its not just 1 show, i noticed these nasal voices over the years of american tv shows. I lose my attention about the topic when a girl with a voice like that starts yapping loudly, and just think 'SHUT UP' after the first second.

The voice/sound you are referring to is just "attitude." Listen to how the Kardashians speak. So much attitude they can hardly breath while talking. Young girls pick up on that and want to sound like them. Almost like they are on prozac.

it's regional, probably what they heard growing up and picked up the sound. If you take a newborn american to England to be raised they willhave a british accent when they talk

Suppose it depends where they come from.

In Spain the people from Madrid speak mainly monotone, the Catalans sound like they're moaning all the time, the Galicians sing like Italians, and in Andalucia they cant speak properly at all.


Or take the UK, everyone in the midlands sound like they've got a cold.
