Chaos erupted at the famous Louvre Museum in France this morning -- with a team of security guards springing into action -- all because Kim Kardashian wanted to check out the Mona Lisa.

Sources tell TMZ ... Kim and her mother Kris were swarmed by a massive group of paparazzi -- estimated to be 50 photogs strong -- as they entered the museum in Paris.

We're told a security team was assigned to the Kardashians -- and they were escorted directly to the Mona Lisa (pictured above).

But once they got to Da Vinci's masterpiece, people started going crazy -- taking photos, screaming their names ... and even asking the reality stars to pose with the painting.

Why does our culture continue to worship people with absolutley no talent or contribution to society? She can't sing, act, dance, speak, teach, work, model (too fat) is self absorbed and we all put her high on a pedestal? It just doesn't make any sense at all. The Richard Bacon show was going to broadcast an interview with her and had to spend more time trying to explain who she was to the audience than the actual interview lasted. He spoke about how she brought a huge security force but yet nobody where they were knew who she was. I wouldn't be shocked if it is the same deal with France and those are shots prompted by her own publicity people.

A lot of people I know in the UK know who she is.

As for related to one of OJ's lawyers, she's the daughter of one of them and they had a whole family reality TV show in the US which I saw on MTV a couple of times.

The daughters then went on to have their own show I believe and she got more famous with the whole usual 'oh lets do a sex-tape so I can get more famous!' thing.

Anyways that's what I believe to be the case but I aint 100% sure either lol - but I definitely knew of her before the sex tape thing.

The only reason I know her name is either from this board or from the cover of a few magazines like Heat which apparently report on her cellulite from time to time. I am sure her tv show is on cable here somewhere. I guess my point was that she isn't exactly going to get swamped on the streets here. More power to her for whatever it is she does though.

Um, you can take photos of the Mona Lisa, it's protected behind glass. In fact, it's very hard to actually appreciate the painting within its current setting as you are surrounded by hundreds of tourists snapping away like crazy with their mobiles.

It isn't. There's a protective enclosure around it.
