WARNING for people using iPhone to post pics!

Take a look: http://blog.playpen.com/2010/09/warn...-to-post-pics/

I think this may be true for most modern cameras, not just iphones, as most new cameras have built-in GPS functions to tag the location of your photos.

Nice find though..!

Hey DJ,

I saw this and freaked out I personally love self shot iphone style content. I hope more people read this before something ugly happens.

woj 09-14-2010 02:55 PM

sounds like bs, do they actually put it in the meta data of the jpegs?

Yes, they do. A lot of modern cameras do this.

Stephen 09-14-2010 03:05 PM

good for some apps, tho

While there is the porn chick privacy issue, the technology IS useful.

For example, my wife and I are looking at different resorts in Hawaii that we haven't stayed at yet, and for context within its environment, I've been checking various properties from space, using Google Earth to better see the hotel and surrounding property, beach access, etc.

In certain modes, Google Earth has pinpoints overlayed on the map / satellite image that you are viewing. Click on one and a photo along with its image meta data appears, such as "Pool bar at sunset" or "Sea turtles in lagoon" -- with the pinpoint showing exactly where the photo was taken.

This organic view of the properties, from the perspective of other tourists, is far more valuable than any brochure.

:thumbsup

I don't know much about iPhones but shouldn't there be a way in the settings to remove personal and GPS info from pics before sending?

Sally.

Very true, and the stalkers and pedos all know this and more.

Don't forget Rebecca Schaeffer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca_Schaeffer

Any picture you take can always be tracked back to your specific device.... the jpg/pics have data as unique as a finger printer...even more so.

scarlettcontent 09-15-2010 02:49 AM

Nice find though..!

It is useful if you can't remember where you took a picture.

um... If location services is already set to ON and you go to take a picture in any app it comes up on the screen "appname" would like to use your current location...photos will be tagged with the location where they were taken and you click ok or deny so i dont really see the problem?
