Show us where you live.

Been in this village in Czech for just over 8 years now. Very quiet and we're on a back street.

Some of the houses own orchards opposite. Nice to get fresh fruit in season.

http://paulmarkham.com/temp/home4.jpg

Some even have farms. This one is owned by the mayor who lives next door and worked by an old pensioner. No not me. LOL The river is on the other side of the trees to the right of the field. Has brown trout in.

http://paulmarkham.com/temp/home7.jpg

No cars, we don't earn enough money to own cars.

http://paulmarkham.com/temp/home6.jpg

Or we all have drive ways and garages.

Big change from living in London.

So show us where you live.

Epping and Brentwood, NH except the bridge, that one is several towns north but I forget exactly where I found it. Was riding around on my motorcycle to different bridges on day.. I'll post the other bridges.

I don't have any pictures of where I live. I took some pictures of my hometown for that one thread I had on GFY here, but it was all of the bad parts of my town - the empty deserted stuff. If I have time I'll take a spin this afternoon and take some nicer pictures. Sounds like fun really.

I love where I live. It's a nice medium sized town, friendly, some old, some new. Still have a main street USA thing going on.

I always wondered the same thing so I looked it up. Wikipedia says:

Most wooden covered bridges employ trusses as their key structural design element. A popular design was the Brown truss, known for its simplicity, but others were also used.

So I guess they just beutified it by putting a roof on it. I didn't read the whole article but if you are interested here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covered_bridge

Early bridges were often made of wood, especially where it was a plentiful resource. Wooden bridges tended to deteriorate rapidly from exposure to the elements, having a useful lifespan of only nine years. Covering them protected their structural members, thus extending their life to 80 years or more.

The beautiful farm lands are made of bright green grass.
Blue skies with white clouds and ducks in ponds can be seen.

Sarah_Jayne 09-14-2010 11:37 AM

Where I grew up in Pennsylvania is famous for covered bridges. I thought everywhere had them until I moved away and now I never see them.

One of my best friends lives in Alameda and I visited him there for the first time in 2005. If I didn't love London so much and had a (then starting) relationship here I would have moved because I liked it so much. Then, again, I am a bleeding heart liberal that grew up in a conservative and cold part of the country. So, the combination of sunshine and like minded people might just have been seducing me. It is a bit like London really but with that sunshine.

Am I weird that I thought the Bay Bridge was more impressive than the Golden Gate?
