FSC Issues Call to Action for .XXX Comments

CANOGA PARK, Calif. — Free Speech Coalition has issued a Call to Action for industry members to submit commentary to Internet domain regulator ICANN, to voice their opposition to the proposed .XXX sTLD. The Call to Action will be posted on the FSC website, as well as on industry media outlets and message boards.

Industry stakeholders are offered two options for submitting their comments.

They can choose to submit their own comments to ICANN; the Call to Action suggests six issues of concern that stakeholders may comment on, and are encouraged to do so during the public comment period that ends on Sept 23.

The second option is to follow a link to a short, two-question survey endorsing statements of opposition to the proposed .XXX sTLD. FSC will compile and submit the data collected from the survey to ICANN.

The Call to Action reads, in its entirety:

FSC Issues a Call-to-Action for the Adult Online Community

ICANN has posted the Revised Proposed Registry Agreement and Due Diligence Documentation for public comment on the ICANN website. FSC has responded to the Board with a letter of requests and has filed a Documentary Information Disclosure Policy for additional information.

We need your help! FSC is launching an industry-wide call-to-action. It is imperative that you speak up now!

ICANN’s .XXX current comment period closes Thursday, September 23rd so ACT NOW!

There are two ways in which adult industry professionals can be counted on the public forum:

1. Click on the link below and respond to the statements of opposition. FSC will compile the data and report it to ICANN:

2. Or better yet, PLEASE write your own statement of opposition to ICM’s proposed .XXX sTLD. Below are some issues you may want to stress. Comments can be posted on:

Public Comment Suggestions

Make sure that you mention that you are a professional member of the adult online community-the party most impacted by the ICANN Board’s decision. Write to the Board about any of a number of issues as demonstrated below.

Let the Board know that you are concerned…

… that ICM is pushing unnecessarily for a “responsible” global online community when the adult entertainment community already has an entity through which Internet publishers and others can self-identify as a responsible global online adult entertainŽment community through the Free Speech Coalition and its Code of Ethics.

… with companies that have pre-registered .XXX domain names but are in opposition to a .XXX sTLD. By ICM’s own definition those companies do not qualify for a .XXX sTLD because they do not voluntarily agree to the .XXX sTLD and thus believe that ICM’s proposed .XXX sTLD would be detrimental to their business.

… with the lack of transparency surrounding ICM’s submissions in the omission of the names of IFFOR Board members and Policy Council members who will develop regulations for the .XXX online industry.

… that adult businesses would be required to agree to comply with “IFFOR Policies and Best Practices Guidelines” that have yet to be created by boards and councils which have yet to be revealed.

… that information provided for public comment is insufficient. Members of the adult entertainment community require more information about the application in order to provide the appropriate level of feedback to the ICANN Board for it to make an informed decision.

… that if additional information is provided, the community most impacted by .XXX, the adult online community will not have sufficient time to respond and therefore request that the public comment period be extended 30 days after additional information that has been requested has been supplied.

Thank you. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or require additional information contact [email protected] .

Yes -- depending on how many rounds of this you have submitted comments for, you might have done it several times previously. Every time ICM's proposal comes back up for consideration, be it after a revision to the contract or for any other reason, there's typically a new round of public comment to go along with that new round of consideration.

My sense is that ICANN will only really consider comments that pertain to the current, operative draft of the proposed contract; as such, it really is important to review the list of concerns provided by FSC and focus your comment on those areas. (Assuming you are against .XXX, that is.)

If you are FOR .XXX on the other hand.... well, according to ICM's statements about the status of .XXX, you needn't say anything at all about the current draft of the contract. After all, they've already demonstrated that they have the community's support, and it's all a "done deal".... right? :winkwink:

Get your hot fresh comments in to ICANN while you can. Only one more week of the public comment period.

I imagine it will go through. I will write another letter in protest, but I don't think that is going to change what is already a foregone conclusion. I'm thinking this will simply die down like the .co and .mobi domains and not be the next big thing. I think .xxx will be a spammers paradise and chock full of crap sites. It will be a minefield of malware and virus drive-by traps and will scare virtually every surfer the hell away from it. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Redrob 09-16-2010 06:14 PM

Not a foregone conclusion......and, you comment counts.

I hope you are right. I watched the last meeting and it seemed like they were putting it off for a while yet again to gauge the public and political feedback of actually approving it. The real opposition will come if and when it is approved, but then it will be too late. If that happens, I personally plan to simply ignore it and I hope everyone else does too.

It takes very little time/effort to use the FSC links to try and protect our future!

The deadline is just three days away, and the ICANN comments site needs our comments.

davecummings 09-20-2010 08:45 PM

Please post here when you've posted at either the FSC site's link, and/or the actual ICANN comments site.

We seem to be encountering a lot of people posting as stakeholders in favor of .xxx -- I don't recognize all of them and wonder if they are indeed "REAL" stakeholders, or......?

Alprazolam 09-20-2010 09:29 PM
