My phone is no longer on contract and I asked ATT for unlock code, which they said they wouldn't give me, so now I need to jailbreak it to make it work outside of the US.

Any good and safe places to download the jailbreak that works?

i upgrade to 4.0 on my 3g and 3gS and it made the phone lag soooo bad

i thought it was just me but googling i found out it is pretty much common if you upgrade to 4.0+ on a 3g or 3gs your phone will lag like crazy

If its a 3G & not a 3Gs don't do it. Phone will crawl trying to run IOS 4.

It's a VERY known issue. Google it.

jailbreak will not make your phone automatically unlocked for other carriers. For such you need unlock as well.
So far, unlock for 4.1 doesn't exist, and jailbreak is not officially released.
