I'm not an expert on Hollywood but I was always under the assumption the biggest hurdle in getting a film made was the financing. That becomes pretty easy if you fund the whole project yourself.

hopefully more before the 1st one gets fully funded..then the green light goes off easier for all your other projects in the pipeline at some state of development. Plus some cheaper lower budget projects can leap frog over the bigger budget project. Never keep all hope in 1 basket. Tell your buddy to get his option check or pull the project back and go to a different producer and keep pushing. Also tell him to develop yet another project for easy sell after the 1st one gets the "green light"
