Life was so much easier back in the days when we had these...

I remember cops asking me if I was Doctor every time I got pulled over for something stupid.
Like only Doctors used to carry beepers.

Then I graduated to this, I never used it because it was like 5 bucks a minute, but no text, no emails, no camera, no video, no gps, no internet. Just a phone to make an emergency calls. Unless you had it Chipped. But I was too nerdy to do that.

ottopottomouse 09-08-2010 01:36 PM

Never had a pager.

Did have the huge phone though. Was fucking heavy but the reception on it was good.

Jarmusch 09-08-2010 01:36 PM

Yeah having a beeper and having to find a phone to make the call was much easier than carrying a phone in your pocket..

JP-pornshooter 09-08-2010 01:39 PM

pagers were great for bootie calls..

MaDalton 09-08-2010 01:39 PM

i reserve the right to let my cellphone switched off - like today

quiet 09-08-2010 01:39 PM

Amputate Your Head 09-08-2010 01:40 PM

i had pagers. hated them.

Tom_PM 09-08-2010 01:44 PM

With the old tv's and radio's with the UHF band, you could just sit there and click around and pick up every single cellular call, hahaha. The originals were 100% analog with no time or data encoding whatsoever.

Grapesoda 09-08-2010 01:46 PM

yeah got my first cell phone in the early 80's

my old man worked in electronics, so we always had the newest gizmos & gadgets before they were officially on the market. We had one of those giant satellite dishes on a freakin' trailer parked in the backyard too for a while.... i think it picked up 3 channels after hours of fine tuning. lol

Semi-Retired-Dave 09-08-2010 03:22 PM

Isn't it crazy that we live in the times Technology developed.
Look how far we have seen TV and Cell Phones change, not counting everything else.

What will Apple do in the next 50 years?

What cell phones will my kids be using when they turn 15? Crazy to even think about it.
I'm still waiting for the flying car.

NaughtyRob 09-08-2010 03:24 PM

Haha. I had to wear those for years when I was a restaurant general manager.

NaughtyRob 09-08-2010 03:24 PM

They called them a "two way" right?

If you're ever itching to do that sort of thing again, that's my dad's business and they're in SF for client shows all the time.

I'm trying to talk my brother in law out of buying a new Malibu ski boat, and going in on one of those Icon A4 sport planes posted above.

So true. Look how much has changed just in the past 5 years. Can't even imagine what will be available in 25 - 50 years. Unless they all revolt and go back to the beeper. ;)

PornMD 09-08-2010 09:38 PM

I remember my dad having a car phone. The oldest computer I remember him having was with 8 inch floppy disks. "Football" was a text only game - you're either on offense or defense, you pick pass or rush and it tells you how many yards were gained or lost. Good times.

epitome 09-08-2010 09:42 PM

It wasn't even all that long ago that we got ATM's. Every Friday you had to take your check to the bank and wait in a long line to deposit it. You also tried to decide exactly how much you'd need to make it through the week so that you wouldn't have to go back.

Now it is not even necessary to ever see a teller.
