1. 5th Element (the complete package...I love everything about this movie and it spans enough genres to be a complete enjoyment...I've easily seen it at least 60 times, maybe over 100 by now, and still can't avoid watching it if I see it on TV)
2. Twelve Monkeys (a movie I didn't fully comprehend when I was younger but still loved, and love it 10x more now that I know wtf is going on, lol)
3. Groundhog Day (for what would otherwise be considered a hilarious romcom, a complete mindfuck of a movie)
4. Memento (mindfuck #2 - maybe the single best attempt at putting the audience in the main character's shoes)
5. Eternal Sunshine (mindfuck #3)

Honorable Mentions:

Baseketball (quote this movie all the fucking time, absolutely hilarious)
Multiplicity (ditto)
Lucky Number Slevin (one of the better movies that bombed in theaters)
Fight Club (IMO overrated by a lot of people but still pretty cool and unique for its time)
Matrix (they should have never made sequels...in fact, if they had never made sequels, this might be in my top 5)
Phoenix (another little known awesome movie, nice noir. RIP Brittany Murphy, who was fucking hot as shit in this btw)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (the best Indy...I love Raiders and Temple grew on me over time, but this movie is epicly epic)
Robin Hood: Men In Tights (I grew up on this vs. Princess Bride so I'm partial to this of the two)
Very Bad Things (all-time fave dark comedy)
Suicide Kings (close #2 in the dark comedy department)

tabasco 09-09-2010 12:56 AM

Bah...would have added that to my Honorable Mentions but couldn't think of it. Such a painfully true movie that it's hard to know whether to laugh or cringe.

See, for these lists I always have to ask 'top 5 what?' because I know there is a difference between my top 5 favourite films vs the top 5 films in term of quality. A few of my fave films are just silly but they are fun.

So, I will go with top 5 favourite and then I come up with:

Clerks
City Of God
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Dogma
Goonies

I am very sure they aren't the best made movies I have ever seen (with City of God being one that would make that list too) but they are 5 that I always enjoy watching.
