Phatservers or XFR?
What are your experiences with them and why would you recommend them?
Also, can anyone tell me a domain name of a very busy site hosted on XFR. I'd like to monitor it for a few days with a server monitoring service. -- McSpike -- |
Phatservers rocks!
|
XFR is better, a bit more expensive tho i believe.
|
McSpike. Send me an e-mail and I will reply with several well-known sites we are hosting for you to monitor.

You can monitor: count.paycounter.com :) Counting over 80 million hits a day from the XFR network ;) -KC |

We are also offering a 20% discount on Virtual hosting (Coupon Code gfy0001) I would be happy to set up an account for you (if virtual hosting is what your looking for) and let you test it for a few days. Let me know. No commitment necessary. |
Go for Phatservers...
Their service and prices are the best :thumbsup No one above, no one besides... Cheers Hurricane |
Or........ inquire about our service as a third possible choice. :-)
Call me at 858-864-8646 (direct line) whenever you have some time. Would love to go over your needs for hosting, co-lo and dedicateds. Chris J. SplitInfinity 858-560-2760 |
I have no experience with XFR but I do trust Amp's judgement. However, Phatservers is the fastest server I have ever been on.

Yes both have prices lower than what I am paying atm. I don't mind higher prices if servers are fast, but I still have to test both of them and decide.
Both of them replied to my emails very fast so that's a plus for both and I am back to square 1 with my decisions on that one :) -- McSpike -- |
KC,
Oh you host there? Nice. :) count.paycounter.com is 404. I guess www.paycounter.com is on the same server too, right? :) -- McSpike -- |

that's a custom webserver software.. it just counts and redirects.. so it doesn't host any pages ;) but if you have monitoring software... you can monitor it.. or start a ping to it and come back in a week and it'll be 0% packet loss. ;) |
I'm with Phat Servers. No complaints here.
The tech support is top notch. I send an email with something I need done, it's done within 10 minutes. No exaggerations. Mike has tech support covered like none other. |

Since we went with XFR we have seen double the amount of sales and recurring. Not only are the high quality but they are the only hosting company I know that will contact you as soon as they see a change in your BW. Dont forget....$1000 more BANDWIDTH is pennies when your dealing with your member database.

This cannot be a serious debate, right?
http://www.above.net/cgi-bin/trace?PhatServers.com is on Cogent Bandwidth. xfr is like the fastest on the planet. |
Thanks for the backup guys. It's nice to see I have happy customers.
|
well you all know my favorite hosts, but out of the two you picked i like phatservers, used to host with them, good people...

yes very true. :thumbsup |

LOL...just kidding I know qwest is really good bandwidth but I prefer hosts that are multi homed (i.e two or more bandwidth providers) because no one's network is perfect. |
go with phatservers dude
|
I left Phat cause I kept getting notices from tgps that my server was too slow. I am now using m3server which is not cogent and don't get any emails.

This month I'm with Phat Servers and whichever provider they use. Zippy as can be. My buddy was building a tour for his paysite but it was loading slow as hell. We couldn't figure out the problem. So I uploaded it to one of my domains, I swear it was 4-5 times faster. My buddy had a dedicated with someone in Northern California, I had his tour up on a standard virtual account from Phat Servers. |
I got the emails first and then I traced.
Excuse me for my typo.. LOL.. You may have the MORE worthy to you on verio but you had my server on cogent and I don't lie.. So don't even start it with me.. |

For the record, We at Phatservers offer Cogent AND a multihomed bandwidth mix with a variety of bandwidth providers. As far as Honeyslut's comments about slow load times, I just did a search of my entire tech support email archive (Every single piece of mail I have ever recieved or sent) and I found no record of you mentioning anything to me about the problem. Most likely it was something simple that could have been fixed, but rather than say anything about it at the time, you simply jumped ship to another hosting company, and then to another hosting company, (Maybe another one after that?) making vauge comments about your experiences with us on this board. I can say without any doubt that your problem was certainly one that would have been fixed within minutes of your bringing it to my attention (As I see all of your requests were as I search through my email archive) so I can't understand why you try and sneak a shot in on every thread we're mentioned in. You certainly appear to have enough time on your hands to post about your bad experience to all who would read it. I certainly try to make our customers happy, but being human I am prone to make mistakes, and do make them from time to time. Judging by your comments since your departure from Phatservers, I made a mistake when I was 9 by not ordering that mind reading kit from the back of an Archie Double Digest (I got the X-Ray glasses instead). And for what it's worth, there is no favoritism about who gets put on what bandwidth. If someone wants Cogent, they get Cogent. If someone wants multihomed bandwidth, they get it. You never said anything about slow load times, you just left, so we never offered to switch you. --- Mike W Head Tech Phatservers.net |
I jumped ship cause your tech ignored fixing something and after a month I moved on...
I never complained cause I switched to a company without cogent. You should state which plans are cogent and which are verio.. :) |

"I left Phat cause I kept getting notices from tgps that my server was too slow. I am now using m3server which is not cogent and don't get any emails. " So what is it then? the emails? the trace? the tech? |
Quote:
Shouldn't you have different prices on servers for cogent and verio ? |
Quote:
No one has to complain, our Cogent servers are perfectly fast, and both networks have had excellent uptime for several months. Most of our customers are not concerned about what carrier their domains are on, as long as they load quickly and are always available. Our prices are the same across the board, so you can feel free to stop making assumptions about how our business is operated at your leisure. Whatever we can do to make our customers happy, we'll try and do. I'm sorry we couldn't make you happy, had you voiced your concerns I'm sure we could have. I see no support request from you within a month of the time you left , but when I call Cleo later tonight I'll see if she knows where it is. The bottom line is, as long as you're happy with your current host with whatever provider(s) they carry, that's all that matters. --- Mike W Head Tech Phatservers.net |
I've heard all the scare about Cogent is complete bull shit. If the host has the system and network setup properly, there should be no problems with Cogent at all.
Could someone please elaborate? |
Do a search on this board
if i am not mistaken there's a few great threads on cogent verus non |
I used to get a lot of decline emails for a slow server when I was hosting on cogent bandwidth. (It wasn't with Moose)
I sent a shitload of emails to tech support at my host and what they usually told me was that cogent was overloading one of their peers with traffic and it was creating a bottleneck. This happened a good 4 or 5 days out of the month, so finally I ponied up the dough for some better bandwidth. I'm not taking sides here at all, I'm just saying that I did have a similar experience to Honeyslut. I DID contact tech support at my host, however, they had nothing better to offer me. If you had contacted Moose I'm sure he would have done something for you since he says he's using more than one provider. |

As far as Cogent going broke, it's just not going to happen. It's been said here on thread after thread, and in my opinion is just scare tactics. Look at any number of other bandwidth providers, and I'm sure you'll see a number of them are in the red. I'm not looking to get into a flame war with any uber nerd's who want to tell me I'm full of shit, I'm just trying to explain something in terms that are easy for most people to follow. No matter what I say, people will form their own opinions about what sucks, and who sucks, and who sucks what. I can only shed some light on my own experiences looking at pr0n all day on Cogent and multihomed bandwidth without sounding too much like a nerd. |
