Why the hell are people using design brokers when they can go straight to the designer?

Are these people just dumb newbies who dont know any better?

Correct me if I'm wrong here but I think intially HM was making out he did all the designs inhouse so to speak but this turned out to be less than truthfu..l

I am correcting you Dveron ...

I have NEVER claimed all the designs to be mine ... please read the board before posting stuff to further fuel the hate campaign ... and at this point that is what it is becoming ...

Well as for me. I've done all my designs myself. But once a guy contacted me and asked if I had any work for him, I had more than I could handle so I gave him 10 gallery orders. Customer knows about it, I didn't have to work and made 50$ - 37? Western Union fee. :p and the designer I hired was happy with his 150$. Nothing wrong with that. :)
Not that I will ever do it again for 13$ or so.

a broker is a representative of a firm. ya use a broker when you need a project managed.

It becomes fucked up when the broker doesnt tell hes a broker and you end up paying twice for a job. the broker can take a fee, but that shouldnt in anyway be passed on to the client.

That is a much better deal than 50%. That is the most unreal figure I have ever seen for brokering anything. Brokers make their dough on bulk. In every other business anyway. No fucking way a broker deserves 50% unless they can provide more clients than the person providing the work could find on their own. Even then I would say that is stretching it.

The 25% you received seems more in line. Sorry about the Western Union fee however. That Sucks.

When I started I went to some brokers too, problem is for a newbee designer to get the clients. People don't know you, and don't know if they can trust you, and thats the biggest problem :2 cents:

content brokers take 50% too in many cases which is way outta line. Unless they can move a TON of product for you, which they can't.

brokers will do anything to make a sale in most cases, they'll screw over the buyer OR the seller, that's the nature of being a broker, no money if a deal isn't made so they'll do anything to make a deal, if it means a sale will be made from which they can make a buck.

BTW nowadays I have some guy doing some things for me too. He normally gets about 75% of what I get and I think that is reasonable. He knows what I get and he don't care cause I get him some work.

I am independent...never have given out work...have been hired by "brokers" on MANY, MANY occassions.
