It's not EPASSPORT People, its VISA.

Everyone upset at Epassport may be venting their frustration at the wrong institution. According to http://krebsonsecurity.com/2010/09/v...ks-epassporte/ KrebsonSecurity.com had this to say:
"... The speculation so far is that Visa cut ties with ePassporte due to new anti-money laundering restrictions in the Credit Card Act of 2009, which affects prepaid cards and other payment card instruments that can be reloaded with funds at places other than
financial institutions."
It is a Visa policy which has probably caused this mess, not an issue with Epassporte, which makes more sense to me. Instead of slamming Epassport and filling their email with insults and threats, sit back and wait for an official announcement from them as to how people can either continue business as usual and / or retrieve their money.

Or it's the government?

There is always someone above a big one...

Well, if VISA doesn't want to make any business with ePass, then Mallick should talk to MasterCard and see what happens.

I'm sure they can find a Bank with Mastercard somewhere in the Caribbean to make business with. However if Mastercard has the same rules, requested by the government, that same problem will arise soon or late.

Would be nice to hear such information from, y'know.. Epassporte. :)

JD 09-03-2010 03:01 PM

question is... how long will it take to be resolved?

All anyone has to offer is speculation at this point. The only sure thing that can be said is that the money is somewhere and the account holders it belongs to don't have access to it. So naturally they're going to be upset at ePassporte.

Good question, but we heard the same "resolved" thing from Webmaster Checks and look how that turned out. :disgust

There is a post somewhere in here with the guy has 200k tied up with Epass. He claims he spoke to Visa and they said it was the bank that cut off Epass, not them.

At this point it doesn't matter who did what, so long as people get their money.

If that's true, then ePass still dropped the ball, because they would have known about this months in advance. It's pretty tough for ePass to claim an "ohhh shit, well we didn't know" defense if your scenario is true.

I'd wire every fucking penny I had out NOW. You can always put it back, right? But if it turns out to be a massive meltdown, I'd rather have my dough clear of it.

For those saying "but they were gold for 7 years", to paraphrase Titus Pullo: "no one is a crook ... until they are".

Then I guess all of those pre-load cards you can do at grocery stores are out of business as well then right? Places like https://www.netspend.com/ among others should all be closed as well if it is effecting them all as laid out in this email.

Sorry man, there's a lot of angry people here to add people like you who have no idea of what they're talking about. From the same page:

the administrator of the online forum italkcash.com suggests that the move by Visa is in response to new anti-money laundering requirements mandated by the Credit Card Act of 2009,
not exactly a reliable source, and to add more, just a SUGGESTION

please take a look at several threads where people who actually know what they're talking about explains why epass is keeping the money. Even if VISA cut ties, the money is inside Epass pockets

Can you point me to the specific posts where people these people explain why Epass is keeping the money? Why is their info any more qualified than others who are speculating?

No, apparently it's for reloadable cards where you can move funds from one card to another. Not "locked" preloaded cards.

sorry, but you have now idea what you are talking about...

i am going to keep my mouth shut for now, but there are several reasons why epass is at fault here....

i do agree with you that people should wait for the official announcement that they are not getting their money back... :2 cents:

I have a Netspend card and an AccountNow card. I've heard nothing from them about any of this.

You can do card to card transfers with Netspend.
