Is there a future for web development and design degrees?

Hey guys, asking your opinions as someone pursuing a degree in that field.

depends on your perspective i suppose.

as a tool/skill that you can add to your bag of stuff that helps you further yourself ahead & along toward whatever it is you're lookin' fer, then sure.... yeah.

as a be-all-end-all, "i graduated, therefore i am and this is what i do, pay me".... you won't be getting rich relying on that alone.

:2 cents:

I would get a "real" degree instead: accounting, computer science, engineering, etc...If you are into web design, etc, at least go to a real school, take design classes, take some computer science classes on the side, etc... you will be 10x better off than finishing some bs online school degree...

show some talent, degree will help for sure

Which school are you considering going to?

definitely a future in web development. as for the degree, if you're serious about it the field...pursue the degree and somehow, get the experience you need on the side when you can. intern, freelance, dick around with your own (non-adult) websites

when it comes to getting the job: experience > degree

when it comes to getting AHEAD in the job: experience < degree

Development is where the $ is....
I've been surfing Craigslist and want ads online... most people want to pay designers $10-$15 per hour.

Same shit goes for developers as well. I don't even bother looking for freelance work anymore, because it can sometimes takes weeks to find someone willing to pay a normal rate.

Welcome to globalization, where we get to compete with Indians and Filipinos.

Everyone uses an Indian coder once...then they go back to paying regular programmer fees.

I really appreciate all the feedback. I'm thinking now to go to a different school. Just for kicks, here is what I was planning on doing.
