PS3 Yellow Light Of Death WTF !?!?!?
I thought only X-box had these bullshit problems. Now my PS3 has it.
Checked out some YouTube vids and seems quite common, yet no real way of fixing it, unless you send it away to Sony and they rip you off for your trouble. It was working fine, then it cut off and a game was stuck in it. So i checked out some vids and found out how to to the fan test, and the game came out. Now though it just won't work at all. This is basically what's happening with mine. Anyone else on here had this ?? :disgust |
Let me guess, it crapped out 2 weeks after the warranty was up? Gotta love built-to-break electronics...

Fuck doing all of this!
I guess it'll be getting sent to Sony again... |
My DVD drive took a shit.
Sony wants $150 to fix it. Mine took a shit 1.5 months after warranty expired. I was told too bad ;\ |
Phoned Sony today. They want £131 to take my PS3 away and give me a refurbished one, since they said they don't do repairs now. :disgust
And how do they get these refurbished ones? By repairing them i guess... :Oh crap:Oh crap |
This happened to me recently as well.
Here is what the tech told me was the issue and how he fixed it: When the thermal grease on the processor gets hot repeatedly the thermal grease breaks down and no longer does it's job, fixing it is as removing the old thermal grease and replacing it. Unfortunately, the thermal grease available off the shelf is not the same grade Sony uses, so even if it is repaired the chances of it YLOD'ing again are pretty high. Sure enough mine was repaired with a 30 day warrantee, and YLOD'ed again around the 45 day mark. |

A) it's not common.
B) welcome to 2008 C) Using youtube for "news" is gay. |

http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCateg...ompound-Grease I suspect most of the people getting this issue do retarded things like A) Keep the PS3 on the carpet. B) Keep it in an enclosed area. C) Block the vents. D) Never making sure dust isn't clogging the vent. E) Never turning the thing off when not in use |
%90 it's the blue-ray lens...I've had this problem and my ps3 is only 9 months old, i could turn it on but it didn't play any games. I just bought a lens from ebay and installed it myself, wasn't that hard.

Use your european rights, you are entitled to a product that lasts for a reasonable time according to the cost paid. It works a treat, did it with a mates PS3 after badgering on the phone for some time. I'll get the relevant law for you later. :) |
A mate had the same problem, he ended up paying Sony A$250 to fix the fucker. Mine hasn't taken a shit yet but if it does, I'll probably pick up an Xbox instead, and an external blu ray player.

depending on credit card, if you bought it with one, warranty extends an extra year usually

I hardly have time to play mine so it looks brand new, sitting behind the Vplus cable box & next to the plasma.... Looks sweet as its all black. Shall check the vid though, incase mine fucks up too. Good luck Scott with getting yours sorted & thx for the youtube know how. |
You should be able to find someone locally to fix it for you. My buddy actually does this full time now, mostly fixing 360s...but he can fix the PS3 YLOD as well as the drive/hdd replacements.

I may only have a super nintendo in the box in the basement. But that shit works when you plug it in.
You can send them that in an email if it'll help. |
