tomtom or garmin?

which is better? I've heard tomtom's mispronounce zero as 'west' or some shit but i've never owned a gps so I have no idea which is the better product.

I have the bluetooth garmin and it is really good. Cant remember the model number

Scott McD 08-28-2010 08:03 AM

Usually can't go wrong with a TomTom to be honest. We've had one a couple of years and it's great!

darksoul 08-28-2010 08:06 AM

Depends where you are. From what I've learned maps are only important thing.

suesheboy 08-28-2010 10:14 AM

Big Garmin fan here BUT with Tom Tom you can buy the Snoop Dog turn by turn directions.

Funny as it may seem, I really want that!

docputer 08-28-2010 10:25 AM

I have always preferred Garmin.

baddog 08-28-2010 12:31 PM

I have to go with Magellan as it was able to fall off my bike at 60+ MPH and when I picked it up from the ground it merely recalculated the route and has kept working.

It can take a licking and keep on ticking.

Adraco 08-28-2010 12:41 PM

I'm also a huge Garmin fan myself, there is a reason why Avis have them in all their rentals. Anyway, I had a job at one of the Best Buy chains while still in college and sold thousands of them. I also recently tried them both out for a client. While at it, I wrote a review of Garmin vs Tomtom here

if you like it, please feel free to click the "yes" button at the end of the article.

Garmin for sure

aztecboi2003 08-28-2010 01:15 PM

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350, works great. But I still carry a Thomas Guide in my car.

Spunky 08-28-2010 07:08 PM

I like the Garmin much better

DBS.US 08-28-2010 07:21 PM

I use the shit out of my Garmin Nuvi and it works fine.

pornmasta 08-28-2010 07:33 PM

my 2nd car has a garmin, it's okay. the first one died around a month ago, after a couple of years of service. the new one works better, no real complaints.

Darkcrni 08-29-2010 02:02 AM

Am using IGO, but i think Garmin is the best!

TrixieRacer 08-29-2010 02:07 AM

Depends on for where.

I have no experience with Garmin. For Atlanta, the TomTom is best. However, when driving cross-country the TomTom was mostly accurate but made a couple MAJOR errors which would've cost me hundreds of miles had I not caught.

PimpStar 08-29-2010 05:17 AM

I'm using a tomtom one with live services and am pretty happy with it
a friend of mine has a cheap garmin model and the map looks more like a maze
then like a map to me

BlackCrayon 08-29-2010 07:30 AM

im going to be using in the US and Canada. I've heard some complain that the tomtom is easier to use when muting it than the garmin. Seems most here prefer the garmin though.

Raf1 08-29-2010 07:52 AM

I have Garmin and it works ok. I've heard TomTom is easier in use.

Cleo 08-29-2010 08:19 AM

TomTom on the iPhone.

sojproductions 08-29-2010 10:20 AM

always found tomtom to be the most easy to use.

topsiteking 08-29-2010 11:56 AM

None of the above...Time to grow up and get a get a Harman Kardon.-Love mine...The battery life is not the best but, other then that it has no down falls.

UnUnited 08-29-2010 12:09 PM

Garmin a couple years ago was without a doubt the best GPS out there , I even found the cheaper models that are more simple were easier to use. I use google maps on my droid phone now , works awesome.

Horny Joe 08-29-2010 01:23 PM

I hear a lot of good things about Garmin.. That being said - I have an old Tom Tom OneXL and I like it a lot... Was cheap but do the job very well.

DBS.US 08-29-2010 05:24 PM

TomTom just sounds so gay,,,,not that there is anything thing wrong with using a gay GPS :winkwink:

danevans 08-29-2010 06:02 PM

After using Garmin for a couple of years, I got a noname (SkyDrive) gps with IgoAmigo software, and so far it's awesome in every way.. It was very cheap (60% of same screen size garmin price), and it also has fm transciever (play mp3s from USB and you catch it through your car FM), divX videos, has some games I never use, extra microSDcard slot.. and IgoAmigo software seems quicker/easier to use than garmin. Maps are great but I'm in Europe, not sure if US version is good too..

cam_girls 08-30-2010 01:29 AM

They're all crap.

Turn on car.
click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, Map View

Saw an ad for a voice operated Navigator, not sure if it recognizes voice addresses or just commands though, KITT is here!

Actually I'm planning on programming a voice activated Nav App. They go for $100 per download.

halfpint 08-30-2010 06:14 AM

Garmin are best. I have one and they are good I used a tomtom in London and the stupid thing kept loosing its signal so I went a bough a Garmin and no probs at all both in the country and built up areas

MichaelP 08-31-2010 07:46 AM

Magellan :thumbsup

Porko 08-31-2010 09:50 AM

Garmin here

atom 08-31-2010 10:04 AM

I like the turn by turn on my android. Comparable to my wifes gps in her car but I never have to worry about updating since it does it automatically.

CIVMatt 08-31-2010 10:08 AM

Garmin leads the world in this technology so I wouldn't know why you'd get anything else

bbobby86 08-31-2010 10:25 AM

for me garmin...
