Google may finally have a hit on their hands...Over 1,000,000 calls
Google Wave and Google Buzz may have had troubles attracting usage, but the new ability to place calls from Gmail appears to have caught on quickly.
"Over 1,000,000 calls placed from Gmail in just 24 hours!" Google tweeted Thursday, evidently pleased with the number. http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/web/08/...lls/index.html |
I made about 5 test calls myself.
Here's a nice article with a few things you can do with it: http://lifehacker.com/5622470/eight-...yline=true&s=i |
I used it today to make a couple of calls. One was something where I had to sit on hold for a little bit. It was nice to have the headphones on and be able to work while I waited.
I got rid of my land line a few years ago and just have a cell phone now. If I still had a land line, I would be getting rid of it for sure now that this pretty much offers the same service only free. |
But if I already pay a monthly set fee for internet cable company phone, why would I use this? It's either ditch the Cable phone, or use Gmail -- which doesn't use my house handset(or does it?)

I wonder how they are going to record all those calls so they can hand it to the government later?
