Wordpress - My whole site just disappeared? WTF!!!!!!!!!!

When I try to load the site or the admin, I just get a blank white page. In a cruel display of irony, the last thing I was doing was activating a backup plugin and it was taking forever so I stopped it and restarted it, and now nothing... if I look on the server, everything is still there, but i get a blank page.

I just did a google search and everything I am seeing is telling me to do shit in the admin, but my admin is a blank page too!!

Someone please tell me there is a simple explanation and fix???

try using your ftp tool and delete the plugin you just installed.

What version is it?

Amputate Your Head 08-26-2010 02:05 PM

What plugin were you installing?

10 minutes of freaking out and it was that easy. Thanks so much. I was losing it.

The plugin was simply BackUpWordPress and I will not be trying it again.

I have Updraft already activated but it hasn't worked since I upgraded wordpress to 3.01 so I really need a reliable backup solution.

never stop a backup:2 cents:

It wasn't backing up. I was activating the plugin and it froze for almost a minute so it was probably a server hiccup and wasn't going to recover, but I know what you are saying.

It is unfortunate that you get a blank page.
Look on the good site, you can start from scratch.

I'm using WP-DBManager, and it gives me a nice backup every hour.

That's just the DB though. At least I assume it is by the name? Updraft was a nice solution because it did a daily backup of the DB, the content and the theme files and put a zip on the server and emailed me, but it just stopped working. I even deactivated, deleted and reinstalled it and it just doesn't work.

Yes, it's only the db. I always make sure I have files synchronized, and nothing goes up without going through here first, so what's on the server, is also in the studio. Re-upping everything sucks of course, but it's foolproof. Plus without backing up everything every time (server side) and only backing the db, I can set it for every hour, (like I have already) and then if anything goes wrong, the most I lose is an hour's worth of data from the db... but no file loss. :2 cents:

Yeah, that makes sense. My problem is that I use timthumbs to let wordpress make a few different versions of every image I upload, and they are all used in different areas of the site, so I really need my content backed up too.

Thanks for the input though :thumbsup

some plugins dont have the correct code to uninstall, so it gets stuck, blankwhite page, is common for either errors in functions.php in your theme or a badly coded plugin, which will cause the white blank page.

It probably had something to do with the Wordpress plugin directory going down for a little bit a few hours back.

I had a similar issue as it seems to have gone down while I was installing a plugin.

It's back up and running now, so I was able to install the plugin no problem.
