I have never, ever, EVER in my life been able to touch my toes without bending my knees or spreading my legs wider. Even as a child, I tried and tried and worked on it and even a PE teacher had to admit that not everyone can do it. I was about to dislocate my shoulders or break my knees backwards trying to, because people would say shit like "everyone can do it".
