Facebook: $9.99/month, would you pay?

Yes/No?????

Bird 08-25-2010 06:03 PM

facebook should be paying the users

mmcfadden 08-25-2010 06:06 PM

There is a million and three different ways to make money other then subscription to a site made popular bc of free. The answer is no... facebook2 or facebook3 would then emerge

kane 08-25-2010 06:08 PM

I don't use it now and it is free, no way I would pay for it

WiredGuy 08-25-2010 06:14 PM

Nope, because 90% of people won't pay which means I'd have no reason to pay anymore.
WG

CYF 08-25-2010 06:24 PM

they've already stated they won't charge, and who the fuck would pay for it anyways?

woj 08-25-2010 06:26 PM

hell no...

spazlabz 08-25-2010 06:53 PM

you do not provide a "FUCK NO!" option in there so I just voted no :)

Spunky 08-25-2010 06:55 PM

I wouldn't pay a dollar

camgirlshide 08-25-2010 07:26 PM

I could see them trying to sell some of the games, but they would be dead if they charged a per user fee just to get on the site. I think they know that already though.

Semi-Retired-Dave 08-25-2010 09:39 PM

I'm not on Facebook, but even if they charged 1.99, they would still make 100 Million dollars a month from their 500 million users. Give the free users limited access to the site, and for full access, charge the 1.99.

It's a big gamble, but may be worth it. If they can't pay that, they are never going to pay for any of the advertising on there.

I'll even do the processing, someone, get mark zuckerberg on the phone.

PornAffiliate 08-25-2010 09:53 PM

no f way. i guess they can sell facebook t'shirts etc if they want money. if they charge $1 a year i believe we would see a competitor very soon.

Trend 08-25-2010 10:09 PM

They will charge and millions will pay. Eventually most ( FB, Twitter, Youtube etc ) will offer a low cost "freemium" or micro transaction model.

People joke sometimes about LinkedIn but ponder this fact:

2010: Tiger Global Management LLC purchased a 1% stake in LinkedIn for 20 million.

Their revenue streams:
a. subscription fees
b. advertising
c. services ( job placement services etc )

Argos88 08-25-2010 10:59 PM

no way... in fact, being free makes ZUCKERBERG (the new maddoff) a multi millionaire, for doing nothing..

ZUCKERBERG does nothing, he just sit down, while millions of users work for free, adding content to facebook every day...

great business model, based on suer generated content..

.

Pseudonymous 08-25-2010 11:04 PM

Im not sure if it's been posted but it's not that I wouldn't pay to be on facebook. It's the fact that most wouldn't pay and what makes facebook what it is, is the fact that it's free and everybody is on it.

And because of the need for a credit card payment, there goes most members under 19, simply for the reason that they cannot get their hands on one.

Edit: Sorry WiredGuy pretty much said what I had to say, in a much shorter way. ;)

CaptainWolfy 08-26-2010 02:32 AM

no way in hell

damnage 08-26-2010 03:18 AM

Never going to happen lol.

Its the perfect model as it is. Traffic willing to drive itself and supply its own content.

We're in the wrong business haha

sojproductions 08-26-2010 03:29 AM

fuck no..

seeandsee 08-26-2010 03:35 AM

a cent for lifetime is too much for me

TeenCat 08-26-2010 03:36 AM

that would ruin life of millions of people ... :2 cents:

Theo 08-26-2010 03:38 AM

funny how many people from our industry wouldn't pay $9/month for a service they whore themselves out 24/7

closer 08-26-2010 03:39 AM

I don't even think they need to do just that if you see that they'll make something like 1.1 billion this year on advertising alone!

http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/22/facebook-revenues/

Add in the option to pay for the games and other nonsense ...

ottopottomouse 08-26-2010 03:52 AM

Serious question:

If they introduced a $10 subscription and it killed the site, where would all the users move to instead?

Horny Joe 08-26-2010 04:04 AM

No! I use and I like FB, but pay... No way! I am not that addicted to it

NetHorse 08-26-2010 04:05 AM

I'm about to close my account. I'm tired of old friends and family I've avoided for so many years being able to track me down. Those son of a bitches owe me money.

xholly 08-26-2010 04:23 AM

Lukke 08-26-2010 05:38 AM

Just hoax...

The Duck 08-26-2010 05:39 AM

Fuck hell no.

Sarah_Jayne 08-26-2010 05:40 AM

You aren't the person that starts all those 'hell, no we won't pay for Facebook' Facebook groups are you? If so, I slightly admire you ability to get so many of the people on my list to believe they might charge.

xmas13 08-26-2010 05:46 AM

sweetcuties 08-26-2010 05:51 AM

I'm not on it either... I think it's good if they charge, at least something!

WE NEED TO GET SURFERS OUT OF THE MINDSET THAT SHIT IS ALWAYS FREE :2 cents:

michael.kickass 08-26-2010 05:54 AM

They own the rights of every picture uploaded, thinking about charging a fee is totally out of the question. So no, hell no, I won't pay for Facebook.

Doctor Dre 08-26-2010 06:12 AM

I use it a lot for my business, but it would probably kill it. Even with 5 % of their active users it would be a good investement thought.

tranza 08-26-2010 06:38 AM

Hell no!!

bronco67 08-26-2010 07:16 AM

It's a good business model. Give away something good for free. Get people insanely hooked on it. Start charging.

Some will bail, but the ones who are hooked like its the chronic, and can't function without it will pay, and in Facebook's case that's a lot of people.

Is this a hypothetical topic, or is it really happening?

FeelMyTube 08-26-2010 07:53 AM

no because then most people would move out and it would loose its interest (less people, less contacts, etc.), good thing about fb now is that you can find EVERYONE there and msg them.

they should charge for some premium feature but not for using it or they will destry it even for the people that were originally willing to pay...

AmeliaG 08-26-2010 07:57 AM

I used to pay for LiveJournal, but today, with something like Facebook, I'm kind of not into paying for the privilege of having someone else force their values on me for how to live my life, so they can sell my personal data to Experian or other data miners like that.

Amputate Your Head 08-26-2010 08:04 AM

I don't even use it now... when it's free.

Not sure if I will be the only one on the planet to never use Facebook, but I will definitely be one of them.

xholly 08-26-2010 08:09 AM

used to be able to get fucked up at a party and keep it quiet, now someone takes your photo when your pissed off your nut and sticks it on facebook for everyone to see

Denny 08-26-2010 08:20 AM

Nope!!!!!!!!!!

Scotty Mac 08-26-2010 08:30 AM

Nick-Mindgeek 08-26-2010 08:41 AM

Would you pay for Google?

Why would Google charge?

lol

I think everyone underestimates the mega power of Facebook. This free site will make Billions in profits real soon.

czarina 08-26-2010 08:42 AM
