How often to you go the gym to stay in great shape?

I'm trying to go everyday, but something always comes up.

What realistic to stay in great shape?

AaronM 08-25-2010 05:21 PM

Never. And my oval type shape is sexy as hell.

CYF 08-25-2010 05:22 PM

I do martial arts twice a week but don't really work out other than that.

Sergio Payingsolutions 08-25-2010 05:29 PM

Depends what you are shooting for, to maintain a good physique doesn't take a lot of work since your muscles take a while of no attention to regress, to work on your conditioning requires more dedication.

beerptrol 08-25-2010 05:30 PM

I don't go to the gym. I have a nice little set up here at home

garce 08-25-2010 08:25 PM

I go to the gym once every twenty years ago.

Amputate Your Head 08-25-2010 08:38 PM

don't need the gym, I'm naturally awesome. :2 cents:

woj 08-25-2010 08:41 PM

having a good workout 3x per week is probably sufficient to stay in shape...:2 cents:

vittle 08-25-2010 09:03 PM

on my way to the gym now!

Jimmy Sinclair 08-25-2010 09:03 PM

I workout almost every day at the gym. And when I don't, I feel really bad. It is an addiction at this point... some people need their coffee and cigs... I need my workout! It also helps that my trainer is a hot young college guy ;)

Jon Oso 08-25-2010 09:05 PM

I just don't eat. And then when I do eat I puke everything up.

SleazyDream 08-25-2010 09:55 PM

i'm in shape. i choose round

Pseudonymous 08-25-2010 10:04 PM

5 days weightlifting, 2 days hard cardio. Light cardio on all days.

6000 Calories a day.

How much time you have to spend lifting weights/doing cardio depends on your bodytype and the individual, every single person is different when it comes to losing weight. One thing is the same, losing weight = burning more calories than your taking in. If youre completely out of shape, sometimes all it takes is eating right and jogging once or twice a week.

If you don't go atleast twice a week, you can't really get into the routine, you have nothing to really build on. Once you go enough, your body starts to crave it, which helps you actually enjoy the gym

The Demon 08-25-2010 10:16 PM

Not sure what "Staying in shape" means in this context. 80% of your body transformation is done in the kitchen, so you can work out 6 days a week and still be a fatass if you eat 6,000 calories a day. I eat about 500 calories below maintenance, lift 5-6 days a week, and do cardio 5-6 days a week. Currently approaching 10% body fat.

Blackamooka 08-25-2010 11:41 PM

I do a 4 day split.

Shoulders/Triceps on Monday
Back on Tuesday
Wednesday Rest
Chest/Biceps Thursday
Legs on Friday
Saturdays and Sundays are rest days
(Abs on Mondays and Thursdays)

You shouldn't go everyday. Your body needs rest days as much as it needs exercise. If you're doing mostly compound exercises and cardio stuff, you can go more days, but if you have a heavier routine, you need at least 3 rest days in between muscle groups.

DatingGold 08-25-2010 11:49 PM

I think 3 days to maintain.. 4-5 days to improve

d-null 08-26-2010 12:06 AM

5 days a week, you don't have to go hard every day, sometimes on a busy day just a quick trip to the gym for 20 minutes of cardio is perfect and makes you feel so much better

xNetworx 08-26-2010 12:11 AM

Its 80% diet, 20% exercise to look fit. 50/50 to get massive. :2 cents:

icymelon 08-26-2010 12:16 AM

yu need at least 5 hours of cardio week just to be healthy. which includes walking doesnt need to be at the gym. but thats a good start.

Realgfs 08-26-2010 12:59 AM

..When Im fat, I just stop being fat, and be awesome -True story!

Zuzana Designs 08-26-2010 02:38 AM

I walk/run 4-5 miles a day at the beach or on the treadmill. I do weights 5 days a week. I have a gym set up in my house that I spent lots of money on so I can stay in top notch shape. We only have one body so we better take care of it while we can.

sojproductions 08-26-2010 03:21 AM

6000 calories?? fuck thats alot... i eat < 2000 and go 4-5 times a week.... 6000?!??

ottopottomouse 08-26-2010 03:53 AM

Never. Trying to gain weight rather than lose it.

NetHorse 08-26-2010 04:11 AM

Lift 3 days a week
Cardio 3 days a week first thing in the morning

Honestly, I don't know how you can run a biz like this and NOT exercise. I know that sounds stupid, but most jobs are a lot more physically demanding than rolling out of your bed and going to your computer.

If I didn't workout I'd feel like a limp dick noodle. :2 cents:

Dirty Lord 08-26-2010 05:12 AM

make sex >>>> gym

Itchy 08-26-2010 07:00 AM

5 days a week but then I'm there for losing weight not staying in shape :P Plan is to only have to go 3 days a day later to stay in shape

I let myself go for years and I felt like that. I have been on a diet and exercise routine now for 4 mos. I feel great, lost 40 lbs so far (20-40 more to go, depending on how far I take it), and its worth it. The limp dick noodle thing just hit the nail on the head. I really had no upper body strength after years of sitting here programming and doing no physical exercise. Now I do an hour 4-5 times a week (15 min upper body, 45 min on treadmill) and I feel great. It's just all around better for your state of mind as well imho.

bronco67 08-26-2010 07:14 AM

2 or 3 times a week is plenty enough to maintain, but an insane body needs more. I just got back into shape recently, and after about 3 weeks off, I can see some titties coming back.

i've noticed the peeps who start these threads are never serious about it. they usually never reply back in them, never start another thread saying "hey, i took that workout advice and here's my results", nada, nothing, zilch. i even started a thread asking for peeps who've started threads like these to report in with results- not one replied.

the cats who are serious like tony299, net horse, carlos the gaucho, dlxphil, the demon, don't start threads like this, they just get busy and stay busy.

Roby 08-26-2010 09:05 AM

one time per week

Semi-Retired-Dave 08-26-2010 10:40 AM

When I have a big shoot coming up, Like Calvin Klein, I try to go 3 times a week to work on my abs and tone up. If nothing is scheduled, I just eat junk food and not workout at all.

_Richard_ 08-26-2010 10:42 AM

go in the mornings, every second day but if you can't, aim for 3x week

Vanilla DeVille 08-26-2010 11:04 AM

I'm in the gym five to six days a week. Three muscle building days and two/three cardio days. It's a great stress reliever for me!

2intense 08-26-2010 11:12 AM

4 times per week :winkwink:

strobi 08-26-2010 11:26 AM

Currently I eat around 3100 calories/day (I'm bulking up until next summer) and go to the gym 3 times a week (3-split). For around 1.5 hour each time. Al it takes to be in shape!

strobi 08-26-2010 11:27 AM

Althought I love going, I couldn't image going 5-7 times a week, where do you all get the time?

There's always time. Especially for people that make their own schedule like alot of the members of GFY.

Nope, just 10% above maintenance. I like to do things slowly, and steadilly. I weight 185 pound-ish.

LMFAO.

You can lose weight with mainly diet and 3+ days of cardio and some lifting. You can get big with a solid diet and lifting heavy. You can get ripped with big muscles with a great diet, a lot of lifting and a good amount of cardio. If you want to look like a pro bodybuilder, add steroids to the mix.

Either way, if your diet isn't in order, you won't see very good results no matter what you do in the gym. You also need 8 hours of sleep every night.

I eat fairly well, lift 5+ times a week and do cardio (high intensity interval training) 2-3 times per week.

BVF 08-26-2010 11:59 AM

I workout five times a week...M,W,F I do weights and cardio afterwards....Tue,Th I do cardio and then Pilates afterwards. I mostly rest on saturdays and sundays with an "executive workout" which entails shower/jacuzzi/sauna/steamroom/shower.

TDF 08-26-2010 12:02 PM

5 days a week...yoga once a week

seeandsee 08-26-2010 12:07 PM

3 times a week plus some sport on weekends if you want to stay in some kind of good shape

kristin 08-26-2010 12:07 PM

Five times/week.

Mix of cardio and lifting.

fuzebox 08-26-2010 02:36 PM

I hate the gym and lifting weights. I maintain with yoga...

Adam_M 08-26-2010 03:38 PM

Also don't like Gym, work out doing other stuff 5 times a week
