Cable or DSL?

Ok, I am about to drop the damm dial-up (YAY) - but what should I get? DSL or cable? What is faster? Around here the cable is $35 a month, DSL is $39 a month, so there is no real difference there.

Well what do ya say?

Go with Cable if you have to, even that sucks.

greentea 01-07-2003 03:56 AM

i would go with a cable, only downside is if there is a lot of people on the same pipe, you will see slower download time.

I had both at my office, with cable i have had downtime once in a year for only a few minutes, dsl was not that stable for me.

In terms of speed there both about the same, if not cable is a bit faster.

Cable uploads much faster than dsl. But yeah, its all a million times better than dial up, you wont even care once you see the difference.

DSL sucks

lilmia 01-07-2003 03:59 AM

I had cable for 4 years and loved it.
Then we switched to ADSL and I watched to slit my throat.

Go with Cable.

Hmm. I love my DSL connection. :)

xxxinnovations 01-07-2003 04:09 AM

Huh? I always thought that cable uploaded LIKE SHIT...
DSL Is constant on uploads and downloads... so I hear.

Someone clarify b/c my host is setting me up with DSL out in my area since fucking verizon won't expand another fucking inch to service my area. I'm only getting it for uploads.

Thanks

no, dont get dsl if you upload a bunch of big ass files. Go with cable and get some free extra TV channels with it too.

greentea 01-07-2003 04:14 AM

Generally, Cable Modems can achieve better throughput, which varies a lot, while DSL usually provides a more constant feed, with lower latency

xxxinnovations 01-07-2003 04:15 AM

uploading at 18 kb/sec... is this as good as the shit gets?

LOL, I still think DSL has to be better, but you mikeee, you're a special one... you sniffin some kind of crack? Butt crack perhaps

haha, j/k

Roald 01-07-2003 04:17 AM

At the office we got a cable and a dsl connection. The dsl connection is a bit faster but less stable. It all depends I guess.

Q.

res 01-07-2003 04:28 AM

If you have big upload transfers then you need Cable, but DSL havent good speed for upload. My DSL connection is 1mbit/sec upload and 8mbit/sec download.

why would you need dsl and cable both?

Mr Pheer 01-07-2003 06:53 AM

I have 3 dsl lines and they basicly suck, sure its fast downloading but the shit just quits for a few seconds then sometimes you have to reset the dsl modem... glad I'm getting cable at my new place in vegas
