epasporte - Why it kicks ass.

Let's think about the industry we're in guys. People want to be discrete. Joe Surfer doesn't want his wife to see a bunch of $39.99 internet purchases on the bill. With this, he can make any excuse he wants for getting the card, say it's just a new toy or he's ebaying or whatever. He puts $100 on his card and that's 4 new signups distributed through the porn community that would never have been there before. Of course when that runs out he'll put more on.

For alot of men, porn is something they're "getting away with". They've probably all wanted a membership to something they've seen on thehun, but never wanted that to show on their credit card statement. I'm sure alot of people think it'll actually say "$39.99 HOT XXX MIDGETS.com" or something. The rush of finally getting access to all these paysites will probably bring thousands of new customers. It's nearly as revolutionary as the idea that men don't have to be embarassed buying a porn mag, so they go online. It's all about catering to EVERYONE possible.

Viva la revolution! :stoned

Oh yeah, when I got my paypal debit card, I finally bought a membership to gothicsluts.com and didn't worry about my mom seeing the bill. (I still live at home). I speak from experience, possibilities are endless.

huh? :eek7

Think about the audience, become part of the audience, learn that this is exactly what a good amount of the audience needs as incentive to actually purchase the memberships they covet but are scared to buy.

I haven't even read the epassport deal yet, can't be bothered today cause I'm just too busy, but reading what you just said, and I'm sorry for this, but I laughed. I laughed HARD!

You're giving advice on how the market thinks and you're not making enough cash to leave your mom's place yet? You're afraid your mom will see the bill? Come on. This might be true for a small segment of people, it doesn't cover all the reasons people aren't buying, and the main one being that there's a shitload of free porn out there, people can see what they want without paying for it.

Don't look at this as a revolutionary step that will save all our sales.

It really isn't revolutionary at all. Prepaid debit cards have been available for years. What Epoch is doing is not really that different. I don't really see how it differs from a PayPal debit card.

Babaganoosh 01-07-2003 12:21 AM

No, I know what it's about. I just don't understand the excitement surrounding the announcement. This isn't a new idea at all.

Rockstar 01-07-2003 12:34 AM

Well maybe the idea is not NEW per say
but this seems to be made for the adult industry
It's instant and they have the virtual card option which mean as SOON as you add funds you can use that card instantly if i read this right
With a debit card you have to WAIT for your bank to send it to you
this is one of those things that you can a 1:00am in the morning and buy porn at 1:10am the same morning

I must agree that it is going to BOOST our industry

just my :2 cents:

The idea doesn't have to be new to be big, it's very often the marketing and the timing that make a product successful.

Inline skates had been around for 50+ years when Rollerblade took them to the next level with marketing and the right timing.

Britney Spears wasn't doing anything new, but she packaged it right. :)

I don't know if Epoch can do it, but just because they weren't the first to think of it doesn't mean it can't succeed.

I'll tell you one thing, I'd feel comfortable using this for large sums of money, I don't with paypal.

But keep in mind I'm more interested in using it myself than using it for billing customers.

I take everyones complaints about paypal with a grain of salt. I have used them for almost 2 years and moved thousands of dollars through the account without incident.
