have you tried FaceTime on iPhone 4? not so fun...

Frame rate was much choppier than I had expected (both phones were connected to broadband wifi of course).

Overall, the whole 2-way visual interaction thing felt really weird and awkward - maybe because I'm not a web cam user. I'm sure the cam making me look extra crappy had something to do with it too.

Should be really interesting to see how well it applies to live sex chat - as in, whether the majority of iPhone 4 (or similar) users opt for 2-way or 1-way.

Based on my experience, I bet the majority will continue to stick with 1-way.

But even if I'm right, 2-way could prove to be more profitable on a per-user level in terms of conversion/retention.

What do you think?

A lot of webcam customers prefer 2-way already, and get off on the girl watching them. :2 cents:

Video conferencing is the least used feature globally on Skype.

Nobody wants to be seen when chatting, that is why the telephone is so good.

"yeah i'm just sitting at my desk doing work" - reality, at the nudes getting a lap dance.

Just start jacking off, chat roulette style. Report your findings!

I don't get what's so revolutionary about facetime (apart from the fact that it's marketed by Apple)

My 3G GSM phone from 4-5 years ago featured video calling.

It's all about the interface and ease of use as with all Apple products.

I love facetime. I dont know what kind of crappy connection you are on but even using it over 3g is great. 3g was a little bit choppy, but on wifi it is always crystal clear and very nice.

what is so revolutionary about it is that apple created their own video codec that they have open sourced so that anybody can implement it eventually. right now if you are on a voice call wiht someone that you want to facetime with you can just turn it on.
nobody to this day has created a mobile video application wiht such a wide audience and smooth interface.

Give it some time to get rid of bugs and first gen issues.

What is the codec?
