Anyone Still Play Everquest?

I have not played in years, but this morning had a flash back moment that had made me nostalgic for a second. Now I can only imagine the hours I wasted on the game instead of making money.

Flashback Moment:
Desert of Rho with the spectres. Everyone not fighting would sit on the dock healing, resting, looking for spells (speed, strength, etc.) or waiting for the boat and almost every 15 minutes like clockwork would come a huge troll, mummy, or spectre train on the dock. Typicically slaughtering almost everyone.

Good times.

EQ was a great place to make money several years back, before they made selling things go underground. I did at the time and could have have made a decent stable business off of playing that game, if they didn't end up banning sales. Once I couldn't make decent money, it wasn't worth the time so I sold off the characters and quit.

I remember, before all of the expansions, you could barely go into any store in certain towns because there were so many players it would almost crash out your machine. The most popular towns names escape me now, but I remember you would be flying alone, get into that area and you would be in slow mo.

You could go to those areas and get almost anything you wanted. When they opened up the moon/bazaar. That place was like that. Hundreds if not thousands of players all sitting there. You could get almost everything you needed in one place instead of having to travel the world.

There were no longer any major meeting places in time, and those still playing could literally run though 3-5 zone with no players and monsters and giants chasing them. Once it would get to the point I could be in a zone(s) by myself, and actually have to seek out people. I stopped playing.

Another favorite area was the one with the following.
Ah he, Ah he, Ah he, Ah he. Hey Joe Font! Nananana....

Loved EQ! I still think of booting it up every so often, but somehow manage to stay clear. Haven't played WOW... but for some reason, EQ just seemed to look better to me.

Serendipitously, I got an email from them with this today:

"Free Adventure Service
Now Available!
Released from deep within the dark and dangerous depths of Norrath, a new free adventure service emerges, EverQuest® II Extended! SOE has liberated portions of the critically acclaimed PC franchise, EverQuest II, including five plus years of impressive, award-winning content to online adventurers, free. EverQuest II Extended joins the highly successful EverQuest II live subscription service, and together, provide EQII players with a choice of either a subscription-based or free-to-play business model -- two distinct experiences operating in parallel, a first in the MMO industry! "

So they are wisely moving to a free model with selling l3wts.
