Vacation time for the president. Again?

Wasn't his family on vacation few weeks ago ?

CHILMARK, Mass. – Martha's Vineyard is barely an hour's flight from Washington, but it felt worlds away as President Barack Obama and his family began their summer vacation Thursday amid the island's beaches and quaint farmhouses.

Instead of politicians and polls, the Obamas encountered pony farms and ponds. Instead of filibusters, the Vineyard offers fishing. And the only things getting hung out to dry were beach towels.

They were at the Vineyard but I believe he had to leave early. I'm sure he could use a little break, all of that campaigning takes out a lot of energy.

You guys never read the whole story do you? You just want to post out of context incessantly. Doesn't it say he's had about 20 days of vacation this year, or a total of 48 days since in office? I remember we usually got 30 days off each year, it's about 2-1/2 days per month.

http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/pre...vacation-days/

The only presidents taking less vacation since 1977? Carter and Clinton.

How many vacation days did you get with your day job?

I don't know. I suppose it matters to anyone that thinks the President is taking an excessive number of vacation days.

Vacation can be a great stress reliever. :2 cents:

2MuchMark 08-19-2010 05:29 PM

George W Bush spend 487 days at Camp David, and 490 Days at Texas Ranch during his term, or 2.6 Years of his 8 years on Vacation.

you can't compare what Barry is doing to what Bush did
like stated here, Bush was either at his home or Camp David
Either places are less expensive for security and traveling than what Barry is doing

Pffft.... Less expensive. My ass. What about his kids that where doing all that shit? I think there's a book about them written by ex-secret service guy. They don't give a shit how much it cost. You have any idea what it would take to secure that huge ranch?

TheDoc 08-19-2010 05:47 PM

Presidents do seem to take a lot of vacations. Then again, if you look at the picture of Presidents before they went into office and then afterward, they age really fast in that 4 year period of time. They probably need those half-vacations.

You're right, can't expect a guy to start two wars and then stick around the office to see how things pan out. :1orglaugh

The way good ol' Barry's acting you'd think the country depended on him or something.

Stir shit up, make a mess, go on fucking vacation. Sounds like a plan to me. Bush 2012 :thumbsup

FACT: G.W. Bush took the entire month of August off on vacation prior to 9/11, after receiving intel from the CIA that OBL was planning attacks against NY & the WH. G.W. Bush is responsible for allowing 9/11 to happen.

After he knew... party time. :2 cents:

America is just fucked as a whole. There are tiny pockets like Portland, OR that is prospering(a super duper liberal place). The rest of America is just fucked. I can only imagine what senator McCain and Palin would have done.

All I see is the people versus the big corporations. Main street America "mom and pop" businesses being destroyed by big corporations.

A small bike store in NJ specializing in mountain bikes and cycle bikes went out of business because of a mega Walmart. The Walmart just destroyed that small business and various small stores in the area.

Corporations now can run their own candidates for a political office in the open or privately without disclosing who they are donating money to.

Shit is seriously fucked up in American right now and only a revolution can correct the corporate greed and raping that is going on right now.

It starts with people letting go of the corporate goodies & luxuries they've become used to and straight up rejecting them. This goes for banks, big box stores, phone companies, etc... you aren't doing your part if you're lamenting the decomposition of America and still using iPhones. You aren't doing your part if you cry about how fucked up it is, and still shop at Wal-mart.

I'm doing my part. I haven't set foot inside a Wal-mart in 6 years. I rejected the phones companies, I look for ways to replace big corporate greed with sustainable shit throughout every aspect of my life.

That's the only "revolution" that even stands a chance. Any kind of bagger "2nd amendment options" ideas are just idiots blowing hot air.

Big business, corporate greed, and the rest only understand one thing: MONEY.

Dispute the information, then let me know. If it's wrong then it should be pretty easy to do since it's all public record and highly publicized.

You advocate that the President of the United States be restricted to two or three places?

Bush had extended stays at his ranch which means more staffers had to tag along. Shorter trips require less staff so Obama's vacation is likely cheaper.

The Bush family was also more expensive because his daughters did not live at the White House which means many more buildings had to be secured and continuously patrolled. The current First Family lives under one roof.

You got your facts twisted.

My day job gives me 2 WEEKS of vacation. No one in America gets 30 days of vacation unless you own the company or self employed. That's in Europe.

I was thinking about the numbers of what the spain visit cost that Michelle took

CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports the C-32A (757) the First Lady used to fly to Spain - one of the planes that usually serves as Air Force Two, and sometimes Air Force One - operates at a Department of Defense reimbursement rate of $11,351 per hour.

So a 6.5 hour flight to Spain would run $73,781.50 - double for the round trip.

And I remember the speech Barry gave about tough times

But hey, who cares anyways, right?

The average american is only taking 13 days
http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...#axzz0x6qvexgr

A lot of people are afraid to take vacations because of the economy and also a lot of people feel that even though they are entitled ti 14 days, its frowned on by their bosses. Also, some people feel they have too much work to justify taking 14 days even though they have earned it.

What planet are you on that you think the average person gets 30 days a year? That's England, not America.

nice clothes and live in nice apartments but don't want to work hard to accomplish these things.
Everyone should try to realize their full potential.

Sly 08-19-2010 07:57 PM

Question for the anti-vacation crowd...

Which of the following scenarios would you prefer?

1) Mr. Obama and Congress back in office "working". Remember, every other day the strong argument is that Mr. Obama and Congress are fucking up the country. Ask yourself if you really want them in DC working 365 days a year.

2) On the campaign trail. While many Obama haters have been railing about vacations and mosques, Mr. Obama has been traveling the country on a campaign blitz raising money for several hopeful Democrat governors, Senators, and Representatives. Ask yourself if you want Mr. Obama out and about raising millions of dollars and cashing in votes for Democratic politicians.

OR

3) At Martha's Vineyard enjoying a little family time. Away from the office. Away from the campaign trail. For the most part, minding his own business and playing with his kids.

--

There were plenty of things to hate George Bush about. People clung on to the fact that he sat for 30 seconds while reading a book to children on 9/11.

There are plenty of things to rail Mr. Obama on. Instead we talk about mosques that will never be built, a 10 day vacation, and whether or not he is a Muslim.

LOL.

They are not allowed to fly Southwest. If the day comes that they can and they choose to take AF2 ... then I will have a problem.

In reality I do not have problems with any President taking a vacation. It is the most stressful job in the world and there really is never a day off. A vacation is still a working vacation. There is simply no way to avoid it. Many Presidents in one way or another have said that living in the White House is like a prison. Sure there is Camp David, but having lived a county over, I can say that the area isn't exactly thrilling and unless you're a woodsman, you're going to get bored quickly.
