What speed are you paying for and what are you getting?

OK so I'm in a village on the outskirts of Brno and probably all the kids are at home on school holidays are downloading like mad. BUT.

I'm uploading and the speed crashed Monday and refuses to go back to what we pay for. We pay for a 4 mps upload and 20 mbs download.

I'm getting 0.31 mbs upload and 6.47 mbs download, according to www.speedtest.net and it sucks. The technical guy came out Tuesday and changed the modem which improved it for a while. Wednesday it went down again and today it went down further. :frown:

Sucks when you're trying to do something.

What are you paying for and getting?

After living in SE Asia for 10 years, best connection we've got is around 300KB a sec for around $40.

Activating a cox cable 50mbps line for $150 after home closes escrow. That will be exciting to say the least.

They are releasing 1gbit here soon for 59PLN.

Maybe your internet provider uses a FUP (Fair Use Policy) limiting your bandwidth after you have reached a data limit? Many Czech providers have FUP hidden in their terms, even if they advertise "unlimited" or "no limits". UPC is one of them.

It could also be that someone else in your neighbourhood uses his line a lot. You probably share the 20 mbps line with others.

Or maybe some cables or other installations are damaged for any reason.

No it's not FUP.

The technician came around and was baffled by it as well. Then gave some techno babble and said all was fine. :upsidedow

Will try another company.

I hate you all. I get 1.5mb down ad half that up. I pay close to 100 a month.

CYF 08-19-2010 11:38 AM

I pay for 18, and I get about 18 down and 8 up.

Stephen 08-19-2010 01:26 PM

I live in a rural, mountainous area where satellite is my only option (HughesNet)

Paying for a 3MB connection at $185/mo., but in use it's only ~1.5MB/~512kb up

There is a 500MB/day usage cap as well.

Paying for 6 down and I think the max up is like 786k or some shit.

140$ a month

Jakez 08-19-2010 01:40 PM

I'm actually surprised, as much as Brighthouse blows donkey dick, my new connection which is $45/mo and is supposed to be 7mbps is actually 9-10mbps.

I pay about $45 (it's a TV/internet package for $90)

20 down / 5 up

My connection is all jacked tonight, which is really odd for FiOS. It may be the wireless signal though.

sponsorpimp 08-19-2010 10:52 PM
