                              aaah, CMEs are beautiful ... luv 'em solar flares (did ya know a CME can carry the mass of the MT. EVEREST into space?) :D lolz, but a gamma ray burst from a stellar neighbor might be a serious hazard to us (even if originated several parsecs from us) :P

                                      ehm ... the sun will NEVER really turn to a super novae ... its not massive enuff ... it will blow up to a RED GIANT and then collapse to a WHITE DWARF afaik ... it takes 1,4 solar masses to be a candidate for a SN

                                              I was just making a joke...in the game Master of Orion one of the major events you can eventually face is for a star in one of your inhabited star systems to go supernova, and to overcome it you have to commit research points to come up with a solution.
